Trees taken down in the past few years by the town and National Grid will soon be removed, Department of Public Works Director Tim Kilhart told the Board of Selectmen this week. This problem was brought to the selectmen’s attention last week when Stow Road resident Molly Cutler asked the board about the many trees still lying along the side of the road.
Kilhart said he met with a National Grid representative and Harvard’s new tree warden, J.C. Ferguson, and together they determined which trees National Grid was responsible for and which trees the town needed to deal with. Kilhart said there were about 150 trees removed or still tagged for removal, and the town is responsible for 57 of those. He added that 80 percent of the town trees slated for removal have already been removed, and there’s still a handful to cut down. The town needs to put the tree task out to bid, and Kilhart said he has started that process.
National Grid will start cleaning up their trees “hopefully in the next few weeks,” Kilhart said. He also mentioned that he told National Grid that cleaning up logs perched precariously on the hillside along Pond Road next to the path to the beach should be its first priority.
