Pancake Breakfast
The annual Memorial Day pancake breakfast will be held Monday, May 29, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Harvard Unitarian Church Fellowship Building. This year marks the 20th pancake breakfast, a tradition started by the late Ed Pieters and the Unitarian Church men’s group. Breakfast features pancakes, sausages, and juice and will be prepared by members of the church. Proceeds will benefit the Loaves & Fishes food pantry. Donations are $8 for adults, $4 for children under 12, and $20 for a family of three or more.
Parade, Ceremony, and Wreath Placement
Harvard’s Memorial Day exercises will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, May 29, to honor those who gave their lives in defense of our country. Veterans are asked to line up in front of Town Hall at 9:45 a.m. in uniform or appropriate civilian attire. The parade will proceed from Town Hall to the Civil War Memorial on the Common, and then to the Center Cemetery where geraniums will be placed at veterans’ graves. The parade will continue to the World War II, Korean, and Vietnam memorials and then to the World War I Memorial and flagpole for the Memorial Day ceremony. Wreaths will be presented at each memorial and taps played. Upon completion, the parade will return to Town Hall where everyone may continue, by car, to the Corporal Skillings Memorial in Still River to allow a wreath to be placed and taps played there. All will reassemble at Bellevue Cemetery for a short parade and ceremony. Children will be invited to assist in placing geraniums at veterans’ graves at each location.
All levels of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Police and Fire Departments, Nashoba Valley Concert Band, and all veterans are welcome to participate in the parade.
