During the week, police made two traffic stops that resulted in verbal warnings. The ambulance crew responded to five medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support on board.
Information for this week’s police log was collected on Monday, March 13, because of the impending snowstorm. March 13 information will be reported next week.
Tuesday, March 7
A caller reported a large amount of smoke at an Old Littleton Road address at 12:19 p.m. An officer spoke to a homeowner in the area regarding an outdoor burn.
Wednesday, March 8
At 10:15 a.m. a caller asked to speak with an officer about an inappropriate email. No other information was available.
Thursday, March 9
A tenant at Bowers Brook Apartments on Ayer Road called at 9:19 a.m. requesting to speak with an officer regarding a dispute with another tenant. Police spoke with both tenants. At 12:49 p.m. a caller reported a tree leaning on wires on East Bare Hill Road. The utility company was notified. Downed tree limbs were reported at 1:06 p.m. on Old Littleton Road. The DPW was notified to remove them. At 5:19 p.m. someone reported a tent that had blown onto Ayer Road and was creating a traffic hazard. An officer located the item and removed it from the road. An accident occurred at the intersection of Ayer Road and the entrance to the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 5:27 p.m. A car traveling north on Ayer Road slowed to turn right, but the driver changed her mind and continued straight. A car exiting onto Ayer Road misjudged the first vehicle’s speed and pulled out too soon, striking the rear passenger door of the vehicle. There were no injuries. The second vehicle was given a written warning for failure to use caution while starting. At 8:18 p.m. Ayer police notified Harvard police of a call they received from an employee at the Grape Vine store on Ayer Road. The employee said that two males had just left the store and that one of them threatened her as he was leaving. Harvard officers spoke to the employee, who said it was just a misunderstanding.
Friday, March 10
At 12:40 p.m. a caller reported a car driving erratically through the school zone on Mass. Ave. The caller followed the car to the Boxborough line, and Harvard police advised the Boxborough police of the alleged erratic driver. The town sanitarian called at 3:02 p.m. to report that a camper parked on an Old Mill Road property was not supposed to be there. Police investigated and determined that the camper belonged to the property owner and was therefore allowed on the property.
Saturday, March 11
Police received a call from a parent at 12:05 a.m. who said that their son had just come home from a party on Slough Road where about 50 underage kids were allegedly drinking and doing drugs. The caller did not know the house number but provided a last name. Police checked the area but found no signs of a party. The caller called back with updated information regarding the last name, but again police could find no signs of a party. The officer reporting the information to the Press said that young people in Harvard are “very good at hiding cars when they go to parties.” At 1:06 a.m. officers came upon three unoccupied motor vehicles parked at the Bromfield School. Dispatch called the owners of all three vehicles. Only one call was answered, and the owner told dispatch that his son had the car and was “hanging out with a friend.” Ayer police called at 4:31 a.m. to ask for assistance with a burglar alarm that was triggered at Cains Foods on East Main Street in Ayer. Nothing was found amiss. At 3:20 p.m. a caller reported a black trash bag on Stow Road. An officer removed the bag and notified DPW to pick it up on Monday. A driver on Ayer Road called at 7:40 p.m. to report that a disabled motor vehicle at the intersection with Old Shirley Road was creating a traffic hazard. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
Sunday, March 12
A Shaker Road resident reported a raccoon walking along the side of the road at 2 p.m. An officer euthanized the animal, and animal control was notified.
