Town Caucus coming up
The Town Caucus to nominate candidates for election to town offices will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room. The two people receiving the highest number of votes for each opening will be nominated by the caucus. You need not be present at the caucus to be nominated; however you must sign a certificate of nomination by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the town clerk’s office for your name to appear on the ballot. You may also run for office by taking out nomination papers. The papers must be filed with the town clerk by 5 p.m. on Feb. 14. 27 certified signatures of registered Harvard voters are required to place a candidate on the ballot.

AAA announces poster/video contest
AAA Northeast has announced its annual traffic safety poster and video contest for students in grades K-12. Topics vary by grade level and include seatbelt and booster seat use, school bus and bike safety, and distracted and impaired driving awareness. Entries may be submitted through April 7 at www.AAA.com/safetymatters. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000, and three runners-up from each grade category will receive $300, $200, and $100 prizes respectively. The winning entries will be announced and displayed on May 15.
New travel time technology for travelers
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that a total of 146 “GoTime” signs, which provide real-time travel times, are now activated on highways throughout the state and that a new mobile app with GoTime data is available to allow drivers to see real-time travel information before they leave their home or workplace. The free app is available for download on Apple and Android smartphones by searching “MassDOT GoTime.”
Harvard July 4th T-shirt design contest
Children up to age 18 who are residents of Harvard are invited to participate in this year’s July 4th T-shirt design contest. Winning artwork will be displayed on the 2017 4th of July T-shirts. All submissions will be featured on the town Fourth of July website at Harvard4thofJuly.com.
This year’s theme is “Harvard, A Small Town with a Big Heart.” Deadline for submissions is Feb. 13. Participants may submit as many drawings as they choose. There will be drop boxes at the front desk of HES and Bromfield and at the Harvard General Store.
Designs must be in black ink on 8½x11 white unlined paper and must be large enough to see the detail. Line thickness should be equivalent to a medium-point Sharpie.
