Just ’Cause Walk to celebrate 15 years
Just ’Cause, a local non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness of breast cancer and to fundraising in support of breast cancer organizations, is celebrating its 15th anniversary. The organization has held annual 3-day, 60-mile walks on the roads of Bolton, Harvard, Acton, and Concord and to date has raised nearly $2,000,000, all of which has been donated to The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden and to the Mass. General Hospital Gillette Center for Women’s Cancers. Each year supporters in surrounding communities have helped fulfill the organization’s goals by participating as walkers, volunteers, and donors. There are now flexible options for those who cannot commit to walking the full 60 miles but would still like to participate.

Town Caucus this Saturday
The Town Caucus to nominate candidates for election to town offices will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall Meeting Room. The two people receiving the highest number of votes for each opening will be nominated by the caucus. You need not be present at the caucus to be nominated; however you must sign a certificate of nomination by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the town clerk’s office for your name to appear on the ballot. You may also run for office by taking out nomination papers. The papers must be filed with the town clerk by 5 p.m. on Feb. 14. 27 certified signatures of registered Harvard voters are required to place a candidate on the ballot.

The close of voter registration for the April 1 Annual Town Meeting and the April 4 Town Election will be Friday, March 16.
Harvard July 4th T-shirt design contest
Children up to age 18 who are residents of Harvard are invited to participate in this year’s July 4th T-shirt design contest. Winning artwork will be displayed on the 2017 4th of July T-shirts. All submissions will be featured on the town Fourth of July website at Harvard4thofJuly.com.
This year’s theme is “Harvard, A Small Town with a Big Heart.” Deadline for submissions is Feb. 13. Participants may submit as many drawings as they choose. There will be drop boxes at the front desk of HES and Bromfield and at the Harvard General Store.
Designs must be in black ink on 8½ x 11 white unlined paper and must be large enough to see the detail. Line thickness should be equivalent to a medium-point Sharpie. Increase in price of cemetery lots
The Harvard Cemetery Commission has announced that the price of cemetery lots will increase from $650 to $850, effective March 1, 2017. This is the first increase since 2009 and is deemed necessary because of increased operating costs.
