The Bromfield boys varsity soccer team battled to a 1–0 win against Keefe Regional Technical School in its first district championship game on Sunday, Nov. 6. The Keefe Tech Broncos had a league record of 7–4–2 and had beaten Ayer Shirley Regional earlier in the week, scraping by the first round of the district championships with a close 1–0 win.
The game took place at Harvard Park on a cold and windy afternoon. The Trojans started out strong in the first half, yet they weren’t able to score their first goal until 23 minutes into the game, unlike their other league games, where early goals less than 10 minutes in were common. Junior Jack Armstrong scored the game’s only goal by heading a well-aimed free kick from senior midfielder Colin Grant into the net.

Although Bromfield players took many shots on the goal as the game progressed, and players kept the ball on Keefe’s side for most of the game, the Broncos’ defense and goalie stood strong. Likewise, although the Broncos’ offense broke away a few times during the game, the Trojans’ defense protected its side of the playing field all afternoon.
The game was a tense one for both teams, with forceful tackles prevalent on both sides. Keefe Broncos guarded senior Omar Al-Homsi, the number-one scorer in the Midland-Wachusett League Division D, throughout the afternoon, at times with as many as three players.
The top-seeded Bromfield Trojans (15–0–3) were set to play fifth-seeded Hopedale High School (12–5–1) in a semifinal match at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, Nov. 9, at Lunenberg High School.
