The Bromfield Trojans field hockey team won its first district playoff game 1–0 away against Monty Tech on Friday, Nov. 4. But the Trojans fell to Oakmont in the district quarterfinals away, 6–0, on Sunday, Nov. 6.
The Trojans entered the district playoffs seeded 11th out of 19 teams in the MIAA Central Division 2 Championship playoffs.

Game day against Monty Tech, seeded sixth in the playoffs, was perfect for field hockey. Although there was a slight breeze, the sun was out. Bromfield played on the football field, which Coach Sue Silver described as “bumpy.”
Silver also reported that Bromfield had not brought its best game to Monty Tech. “It was an awful game,” she said. “I felt like it was a middle school game. We hit, we missed. They hit, they missed. Everyone missed. There was stick obstruction. We were playing in the middle of the field. We were lucky to win—we were better, but it was bad.”
Sophomore Alexandra O’Neil scored in the first half with 13 seconds left in the quarter on a rebound off the goalie. Monty Tech did not get many corners throughout the game and did not land one shot on senior goalie Audrey Hettinger in the second half of the game.
Before the second playoff game against Oakmont, seeded third, Silver acknowledged that the game would be “very tough” and that the Trojans would need to “make some changes.” The game was on turf.
At the Saturday practice before the game, Bromfield lost senior Meaghan Parlee to a concussion, taking a key player out of the game. Silver said that she knew the game would be “really tough, and next to impossible without [her].”
In the first half, Bromfield held Oakmont to a single goal. However, in the second half, Oakmont quickly scored three more, demoralizing the Trojans. Oakmont went on to score two more goals in the half for the final score of 6–0 and the end of the Trojans’ season.
“I thought that we had a good season,” Silver said. “Probably could have been better if we did not have so many injuries.”
