How lovely to read about the awesome Audrey Ball and her involvement with Harvard’s League of Women Voters and the Harvard community. It was very kind of her to mention my mom, Anne Vesenka, who at one point was president of the LWV. Use of the mimeograph machine mentioned by Audrey was one of the perks that my dad had as a teacher. I remember collating, stapling, and addressing the mimeographed (purple ink!) Christmas letters that he sent to their vast array of family and friends from all over the world. We are starting to lose that very special and fascinating generation of women who experienced—and were the agents of—so much change in the 1960s and ’70s. Anne passed this past April, and a celebration of her life will be held here at the Friendly Crossways Retreat Center on Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. Folks who knew Anne are cordially invited to join us and share stories and memories about her and the community of Harvard.
