The Bromfield boys cross-country team finished its regular season with a record of 5–6, putting it in fifth place in the Midland-Wachusett League Division D.
The varsity team finished third out of nine teams at the Midland-Wachusett League race at Holdenwoods in Shirley on Oct. 29. The junior varsity team finished first out of six teams.
Coach Marisa Steele commented on the weekend race through email: “Both Luke Jones and Will Squire stepped up for this race. Each of them ran a career best 5km on a fair but challenging course … Will Day and Paul Chapman raced to All-League status with their sixth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively.”
Squire, a freshman, finished with a time of 18:33, and junior Luke Jones finished not far behind at 18:42.
To become a League All-Star, a runner must place in the top 12 at the league race. Day, a senior, placed sixth, earning his second nod as League All-Star, and Chapman finished ninth for his third time as a Midland-Wachusett League All-Star.
The team is preparing for district championships on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course. The top seven runners from the Bromfield boys cross country team will compete.
