Dreams were tangible in Cronin Auditorium on Friday night. On behalf of Bare Hill Rowing Association, we thank everyone who supported “The Power of Teamwork” event benefitting the inaugural Peter Ginouves Rowing Scholarship for Bromfield students held Friday, Sept. 30, at the Bromfield School.
Featuring “The Boys of ’36” film and presentations by Olympic gold medalists Carie Graves, ’84, and Lauren Schmetterling, ’16, the event was an incredible celebration of and powerful testament to inspiration, hard work, perseverance, character, and community, reflective of Peter. We thank USRowing, PBS, our speakers, the Harvard Public Schools, the Bromfield School, Harvard Sweet Boutique, and Concord Bookshop for their enthusiastic support of the scholarship event. We thank Bromfield senior Jack Shelton for his exceptional technical support, our Program Director Holly Hatton, all Bare Hill Rowing volunteers, coaches, parents and rowers who contributed to the success of the evening, and the greater Harvard community that has so generously donated to the scholarship to enable aspiring young athletes to pursue their skills and dreams. Teamwork, indeed!
The Olympians’ words were an elevating call to action to reach for our highest goals despite setbacks and challenges. While those words “headlined” the presentation, the most important outcomes that will result from their conversation are the smaller sparks that foster trust, collaboration, learning, and understanding, the essential elements of teamwork. As they told us, we are challenged to take full advantage of what opportunities each day offers to us for improvement and what we can do to better support one another. Such teamwork will bear fruit far greater together than alone, and it is the lasting impact of Peter’s memory that made this event a special privilege and honor to host in our community.
