This week police made 12 traffic stops, resulting in five citations and seven verbal warnings. They also helped a motorist with a disabled vehicle. The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital; three people refused treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, Sept. 20
At 2:07 p.m. someone who’d been kayaking at the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge called to report that offensive words had been painted on the railroad trestle. Police notified an official at B&M Railroad, which owns the bridge. Someone stopped at the station at 4:52 p.m. to report a case of credit card fraud.
Wednesday, Sept. 21
Harvard police, fire, and ambulance personnel were called to an accident on Route 2 at 1:48 p.m. State police arrived shortly afterward and took control of the scene. Police report that a car merging onto Route 2 at Exit 38 had struck a passing tractor-trailer truck and became partially lodged under the truck. Two people were taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester by the Harvard ambulance and Woods Ambulance. Someone called at 2:02 p.m. to report finding a small black bulldog near the Department of Public Works wearing an electric fence collar. Animal control was notified. Ayer police called at 6:10 p.m. to request assistance in responding to a call about an intoxicated individual at Taco Bell in Ayer.
Thursday, Sept. 22
At 11:47 a.m. a patrol officer stopped on Littleton Road to assist a bicyclist who had pulled off the roadway. The officer provided a bandage to the biker, who had a small laceration to the hand.
Friday, Sept. 23
Someone called from the Bromfield School at 2:42 p.m. to report a vandalism incident there. Police are investigating. A resident stopped at the station at 4:58 p.m. to report having a minor car accident at the entrance to the Bromfield School. The person had gotten too close to a utility pole and scraped part of the rear of the car.
Saturday, Sept. 24
At 12:44 a.m. a 911 caller reported an accident on Ayer Road, where a car had gone off the road and into a utility pole. The driver, 25-year-old Keaton Cashin of Boxford, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stay within marked lanes; he was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. Someone called at 6:18 a.m. to report hearing gunshots coming from the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club. The caller was told to contact the Boxborough police, since the club is in their jurisdiction. At 10:28 a.m. someone called 911 to report a two-car accident on Depot Road, where one car struck another that was parked on the side of the road. The driver of the moving car was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes. At 11:07 a.m. a caller reported that a pickup truck traveling on Massachusetts Avenue had an unsecured dog in the truck bed. The truck was not found. Harvard Detective Daniele Fortunato told the Press that animals being transported in a truck bed are required to be secured, per Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 90, Section 22H, and Chapter 272, Section 77. A caller at Saint Elizabeth’s Convent reported a prank telephone call at 9:42 p.m. The caller said a woman had phoned, saying she was in the basement of the convent. The caller told police that residents had checked the basement and found no one.

Monday, Sept. 26
An officer on patrol at 1:42 a.m. stopped to provide assistance to the driver of a disabled vehicle at the intersection of Old Shirley and Ayer roads and subsequently issued a summons to the 33-year-old driver from Gardner for driving with a suspended license and having no inspection sticker on the vehicle. The car was towed. Someone called from Fruitlands Museum at 10:22 a.m. to report a larceny, which is now under investigation.
