The Bromfield Trojans varsity girls softball team lost three games last week: to Murdock, 12–8, on Monday, April 25; to Tahanto, 9–3, on Wednesday, April 27; and finally to Maynard, 4–3, on Thursday, April 28. All games were away at their respective schools, and the team now stands with a 2–4 record for the season.
The Trojans started off their week against the Blue Devils of Murdock High School, a powerful competitor with a current league record of 5–2. The Blue Devils quickly took a strong 3–0 lead in the first inning and continued in the lead, boasting a score of 12–2 by the bottom of the sixth inning. At the top of the seventh inning, Bromfield broke through with a double from junior Grace Barton and scored six runs in the course of the half-inning. As a result, the Trojans finished the game only four runs behind Murdock.
Two days later, the Trojans challenged the Tahanto Regional High School Stags, an undefeated opponent in the league and the strongest team they faced that week. The two teams started out on even ground after the bottom of the first inning with the score tied at 1–1. Although Bromfield persevered throughout the game, eventually landing two runs in the last two innings of the afternoon, the team lost the game, 9–3.
Bromfield lost its closest game of the week on Thursday to the Maynard Tigers. Maynard High School was in the lead after the bottom of the first inning with a score of 3–0, but the Trojans fought back valiantly in the last few innings. They almost brought the game to a tie in the seventh and last inning but fell short by one run. The Tigers ultimately prevailed, 4–3.
The Bromfield Trojans were next set to face Ayer Shirley in an away game on Tuesday, May 3, and then West Boylston, also away, on May 4.
