This week police made seven traffic stops that resulted in seven citations. They also responded to one call about a disabled motor vehicle, helped one driver access an inadvertently locked car, and responded to one request for a cooking fire.
The ambulance crew responded to seven medical emergencies and took six people to the hospital, four with Advanced Life Support on board. One person refused medical treatment or transport to the hospital.
Tuesday, April 12
At 11:19 a.m. a passing motorist on Prospect Hill Road called to alert police that a garage door was open at a home on that road. An officer went to the residence and found the owner at home. The homeowner told the officer that the garage door had been left open for the family dog because it had been raining and that was an option to give the dog a way to get inside. Someone called at 7:33 p.m. to report that a small, gold-colored pickup truck had struck a guardrail on Ayer Road and left the scene. The responding officer did not locate the truck and observed no damage to a guardrail.
Wednesday, April 13
The state police detail at Devens called at 9:50 a.m. to report that someone had seen a vehicle parked on the “tank bridge” over the Nashua River near the Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge parking lot. The vehicle was gone when police arrived. A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 11:37 a.m. to report that someone had been tampering with an alarm at the house. At 12:18 p.m. a caller from Hildreth Elementary School reported that a large white turkey was approaching people trying to enter the school. The animal control officer was notified, but in the meantime the police officer who responded was able to shoo the turkey away from the doorway. The animal then walked away on its own. Someone called at 2:27 p.m. to report that a shed at Trail Ridge Way had been vandalized.
Thursday, April 14
At 10:06 a.m. a South Shaker Road resident called to report concerns about an unfamiliar white van that had parked in the driveway. The caller said the driver had gotten out and looked at the house, then left. Police were called to the scene of a two-car accident on Ayer Road at Myrick Lane at 2:15 p.m. One car was towed; there were no citations issued.
Friday, April 15
A Woodside Road resident called at 6:45 a.m. with concerns about an older-model sedan parked on the side of the road with its engine running. Police say the car belonged to a worker who was waiting for his boss to arrive to start work on a project at a neighbor’s. Someone stopped at the station at 9 a.m. to report that tax information had been stolen online. Ayer police called at 1:45 p.m. to ask Harvard officers to watch for a car that had gassed up in Ayer and left without paying. At 4:27 p.m. someone called 911 to report a brush fire in progress on Depot Road. Harvard police and fire personnel responded, along with fire departments from Devens and Ayer. Police say it took three hours to extinguish the blaze, which covered about two acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation. An officer on patrol at 8:43 p.m. stopped to advise the occupants of a car parked at the town beach that it was after hours to be there. At 8:53 p.m. the officer gave the same advice to the occupants of a car parked at the library. A Stow Road resident called at 9:27 p.m. with concerns about a man who had come to the door asking for gas money. Responding officers found the man and advised him that his car would be towed unless he removed it within the hour.
Saturday, April 16
A Stow Road resident called at 9:15 a.m. to complain about cars speeding on that road. An Ayer Road resident called 911 at 10:18 a.m. to report a brush fire out of control on the property. Firefighters extinguished the half-acre blaze. An officer on patrol at 6:24 p.m. stopped to investigate a minor two-car accident on Elm Street. There was only minor damage to both vehicles, and the drivers were already exchanging insurance information when police arrived.

Monday, April 18
A 911 caller reported an accident on Massachusetts Avenue near the elementary school at 12:18 p.m. Police say two cars were involved, and there was only minor damage. A resident on Warren Avenue called at 1:40 p.m. to report that a wooden wharf with a white float had drifted across the pond to his property. At 6:16 p.m. a caller visiting some conservation land on Littleton County Road reported concerns about a man whose truck was parked across from hers. She told police she had not seen the man while she was walking and was concerned for his well-being. Police say the man was coming out of the woods with his walking stick when they arrived.
