As the renovation of Town Hall nears completion and town employees wrap up their temporary stay at the old library, the next guest has already been booked: the Council on Aging.
The COA had requested use of the old library for offices and programs while work to improve the safety and accessibility of Hildreth House, Harvard’s senior center, is underway. Construction is scheduled to begin in late spring this year. At their March 15 meeting, the selectmen voted unanimously to approve the request.
Selectwoman Lucy Wallace, liaison to the COA, said that during construction the council will hold meals and other events that include food at St. Theresa’s Church at 15 Still River Road, and the MART van will be parked in the church’s parking lot. COA offices and programs that do not include food, however, will be located in the old library until Hildreth House construction is complete, tentatively by the end of the year.
Town Administrator Tim Bragan said that the desks currently in use by town employees will remain in the old library, since new desks will be purchased for Town Hall. In addition, Bragan said the cubicles currently in use by the Finance Department will stay. However, the COA is planning to use that space as an activity room and would like them removed.
Bragan said the last selectmen’s meeting in the old library will be held on May 17, and the move back to Town Hall will begin after that. Town Hall is slated to reopen on May 26.
