Harvard resident Zach Marr, 22, disappeared in Boston a week ago, sparking a widespread search by his family and friends and the police. Marr was last seen outside the Bell in Hand Tavern on Union Street around 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, according to the Boston police news website.
Police in both Boston and Harvard are taking part in the investigation. Meanwhile Marr’s family and friends distributed posters asking for the public’s aid in finding him and also turned to social media to spread word of the search.
Matthew Marr, of Glenview Drive, described his son’s disappearance as “totally out of character.” In The Boston Globe, Marr urged his son, “Just please call … anything just to hear your voice.”
Zach Marr went into Boston Friday evening to celebrate his recent birthday with cousins from Leominster and South Boston, according to several reports in the Globe, NECN, and WCVB news. His cousin, Amanda Marr, told WBZ that Zach left the bar to have a cigarette. He was without his jacket in the extreme cold. Soon afterward, she said, he sent a Snapchat message saying bar staff would not allow him to re-enter. A spokesperson for the Bell in Hand, however, said security cameras showed that Zach had not tried to return. Within a few minutes, his cousins looked for him outside the bar but could not find him.
A graduate of Leominster High School, Marr is currently enrolled at Mount Wachusett Community College and is also working full time at Quiet Logistics in Devens, according to news reports and his Facebook page.
Marr previously worked with Harvard resident Scott Nutting in his carpentry and remodeling business. Nutting described Marr as “very attentive to his work” and “almost always cheery.” Marr was also employed for a time at the Harvard General Store. He is the grandson of the late Elizabeth Marr, a longtime Harvard resident.
