Harvard native, WWII veteran, man of many talents

Franklyn M. Hynes, 97, formerly of Harvard, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 2, 2016, at the Caldwell Home in Fitchburg.
His wife, Eleanor G. (Mealy) Hynes, died in 1997.
Franklyn was born in Harvard on July 30, 1918, a son of the late Franklyn M. and Christie E. (Sawyer) Hynes, and he lived in the town for most of his life.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Throughout his career, Franklyn worked in the road construction industry for several companies as a heavy-equipment and road-grader operator. He was a man of many talents and loved to spend time around his home, gardening and tinkering at an array of projects, providing a great home for his family.
He leaves his son, David T. Hynes, and David’s wife, Diane, of Owls Head, Maine; three daughters, Carolyn C. Hynes of Fitchburg, Dorothy H. Orlando and her husband, Paul, of Westborough, and Phyllis J. Cifelli of Colonia, New Jersey; a brother, Warren J. Hynes, in Virginia; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife, Franklyn is predeceased by three brothers and five sisters.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Bellevue Cemetery on Still River Road in Harvard.
