The Bromfield boys soccer players are headed to MIAA Central District 4 finals this weekend after beating the Maynard Tigers 2-0 Wednesday under the lights at Lunenburg.
Both Bromfield goals were scored in the second half, the first by Bromfield junior Colin Grant and the second by junior Omar Al Hamsi, both with assists by sophomore Jack Armstrong. Armstrong’s contribution to the second goal featured some nifty footwork. After being blocked by a Tiger defender, he somehow managed to evade his opponent and get a foot on the ball before it went out of bounds, too. The cross to Al Homsi that followed was “pure poetry,” in the words of Press photographer Lisa Aciukewicz, who witnessed the play. “It’s nice to be back in the playoffs again,” said Bromfield coach Tom Hill.
The Trojans will now play Sutton on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Nashoba High School for the district championship. In their last contest at Harvard on Oct. 26, Sutton won 2-0.
