This week police made 28 traffic stops, which resulted in 16 citations, 11 verbal warnings, and one arrest. The ambulance crew responded to five medical emergencies and took three people to the hospital, two with Advanced Life Support on board; two people refused treatment and/or transport to the hospital. One person called to request permission for an outdoor cooking fire.
Tuesday, Oct. 6:
At 1:26 a.m. an officer stopped to investigate and make note of an unoccupied car parked on Depot Road. Someone called at 2:35 p.m. to report a dead animal in the roadway on Woodchuck Hill Road. The Department of Public Works was called to remove it. At 4:05 p.m. someone called 911 to report a car being driven erratically on Littleton Road. Police did not locate the vehicle. A resident on Candleberry Lane called at 10:24 p.m. to report hearing a suspicious noise in the basement. Police checked the residence and found everything in order.
Wednesday, Oct. 7:
A resident called at 7 p.m. to speak with an officer about receiving IRS-scam phone calls. An officer on patrol at 7:11 p.m. stopped at Town Hall to speak with a worker about moving a Charter Communications truck to a less dangerous location.
Thursday, Oct. 8:
An officer on patrol stopped a car pulling out of the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot at 2:55 a.m. The officer reported that the car appeared to leave abruptly after the officer’s car pulled into the lot. The driver told the officer she was lost and had just pulled over to check directions. At 9:42 a.m. someone stopped at the station to speak with an officer about a harassment incident. A resident called at 10:44 a.m. to complain about a persistent loud noise coming from the Shaker Hills Golf Course. At 11:30 a.m. a caller reported a disabled car on Ayer Road. The investigating officer reported that a motorist was changing a tire.
Friday, Oct. 9:
A motorist called 911 at 5:02 a.m. to report striking a deer with his car. The deer ran off, but the car had to be towed. A caller reported a disabled vehicle on Ayer Road near Myrick Lane at 5:25 a.m. Police say the vehicle in question, which was unoccupied, was parked in front of a residence and did not pose a hazard to traffic. At 11:14 a.m. someone called to complain about a dangerous driveway at Littleton and Whitney roads. Police advised the caller to contact the Board of Selectmen. Bolton police called at 5:05 p.m. to report having received a call about an apparently lost wallet seen on the side of the road near East Bare Hill and Brown roads. Police did not locate the wallet.
Saturday, Oct. 10:
At 12:06 a.m. a caller reported a large, dead beaver in the roadway on Ayer Road. The DPW was called to remove the carcass. An officer on patrol at 2:54 p.m. stopped on Old Littleton Road to assist the driver of a tractor-trailer unit in backing up the vehicle. At 7:47 p.m. someone reported a car parked at conservation land on West Bare Hill Road. An officer located the driver, who was with his family, and advised him that it was after hours to be on conservation land.
Sunday, Oct. 11:
An Ayer Road resident called at 1:17 a.m. to report hearing what sounded like the distraught voice of a girl calling out the name “Ryan.” Police checked the area, but did not find anyone. At 1:47 a.m. an officer stopped to check and make note of an unoccupied vehicle parked at the post office on Ayer Road. At 2:45 p.m. someone called about a suspicious car parked on Ayer Road. An officer on patrol performed a random license-plate check on a passing car on Ayer Road at 2:53 p.m. and pulled it over after discovering that the vehicle was not registered. The officer subsequently arrested the driver, Anita Louise Cullinane, 62, of Rockton, Pennsylvania, on an outstanding warrant as well as for driving an uninsured, unregistered motor vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and having an invalid inspection sticker.
Monday, Oct. 12:
At 8:18 a.m. a caller from Westward Orchards Farm Store reported that someone had broken into the store during the night, entering by breaking a window in the door. According to police, only a small amount of food and drink was taken. Someone stopped at the station at 11:26 a.m. to report having lost a cellphone. At 1:48 p.m. a Bolton Road resident called to report that an orange canoe had been stolen from the canoe rack at the town beach three weeks earlier. A Stow Road resident called at 2:09 p.m. to report concerns about two men in the area acting suspiciously. Police did not locate the men. Someone called at 2:57 p.m. seeking advice about a domestic situation. An East Bare Hill Road resident stopped at the station at 3:49 p.m. to turn in a wallet someone had placed in his mailbox.
