Pope Francis’ address
Congresswoman Niki Tsongas has the opportunity to request 50 tickets for constituents to watch His Holiness Pope Francis’ address on the Capitol grounds in Washington, D.C. Library drop-in story times
Story times at the Harvard Public Library will resume the week of Sept. 21. Infants to 2-year-olds (siblings are welcome) meet Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for Mother Goose on the Loose, an early literacy, hour-long program. Saturday story times for children ages 3 to 7 start Sept. 26, at 10:30 to 11 a.m. No sign-up is required for either program. Free. For information go to www.harvardpubliclibrary.org.
A call to young adults for library advisory boards
The library is calling for representatives in middle school, grades 6 through 8, and high school, grades 7 through 12, to join its Middle School Advisory Board (MAB) and Teen Advisory Board (TAB). Students can earn volunteer hours and have a voice in activities at the library. Advisory boards suggest books, music CDs, movies, and magazines. Meetings for both boards are on Tuesdays: Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 17, and Dec. 15—MAB meets from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m., and TAB meets from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome. Police fundraiser supports
local organizations
The Harvard Police Association has kicked off its fifth annual fundraiser. Last year’s contributions supported Harvard Youth Baseball, Bromfield High School Senior Scholarship, Bromfield and Maynard Tigers, Harvard Council on Aging, Loaves & Fishes, and the Healing Garden. Sponsored for the first time were the COA cookout and Public Safety Day. Contributions also support officers in need and provide recognition for retirees and other noted accomplishments. ‘School supplies’ for COA
The Council on Aging’s fall wish list includes stamps, coffee, greeting cards, paper goods and plastic cutlery, Murphy oil soap and antibacterial wipes, and all sizes of plastic bags. Drop items off at Hildreth House, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
