Police fundraiser supports local organizations
The Harvard Police Association has kicked off its fifth annual fundraiser. Last year’s contributions supported Harvard Youth Baseball, Bromfield High School Senior Scholarship, Bromfield and Maynard Tigers, Harvard Council on Aging, Loaves and Fishes, and the Healing Garden. Sponsored for the first time were the COA cookout and Public Safety Day. Contributions also support officers in need and provide recognition for retirees and other noted accomplishments. Lifeguards off-duty at beach
As of Thursday, Aug. 27, there will no longer be lifeguards staffing the town beach, and there will be no rafts and limited boundary ropes.
The beach is still open to residents and taxpayers, and all the town beach rules still apply to maintain the quality of the beach and to ensure safety. Rules include out-of-town residents having to pay $25 to launch a boat, no animals allowed on the beach, and the beach closed during thunder and lightning storms.
Indian Hill tickets on sale
Indian Hill Music School announces that concert tickets are now on sale for its 41st concert season. Performances will feature the Orchestra of Indian Hill, Kalliroscope Gallery Chamber Music, and a new set of jazz, folk, and classical concerts by faculty and orchestra musicians. Fall soccer sign-ups
The Harvard Soccer Club’s in-town fall season will start on Saturday, Sept. 12. Registrations are now being accepted for levels U6, U7, and U8 at www.harvardsoccer.org. This program is for boys and girls from pre-kindergarten age through second grade, born between Aug. 1, 2007 and July 31, 2011.
Golf outing to benefit youth baseball, softball
Harvard Youth Baseball and Softball will hold a golf outing to benefit its programs Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Shaker Hills Golf Club. The entry fee is $100 per player and includes a cart and a scramble tournament with prizes for low score, longest drive, and closest to the pin. To register, email jimhstevens@gmail.com.
Van drivers needed
The Council On Aging is looking for drivers to provide van transportation for persons 60 years or older. Drivers are trained through MART (Massachusetts Regional Transit Authority). Candidates must pass a CORI and must be willing to receive ongoing training and submit to random drug testing. For information, contact COA Director, Debbie Thompson at 978-456-4120.
