Take Back Rx Drugs Day
The Harvard police will provide a dropbox at the Police station for the safe disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This program is in support of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
Monty Tech launches campaign to Go Higher
Monty Tech will be the first of 17 high schools from across the state to launch Massachusetts Department of Higher Education’s program Go Higher Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 a.m. at a senior class assembly in Monty Tech’s auditorium. The Massachusetts Higher Education Commissioner Carlos Santiago will speak, along with college students from five state two- and four-year colleges and universities, about navigating the college entrance process. This campaign promotes student access to and awareness of public higher education opportunities. For information go to www.mass.edu/gohigher. Loaves & Fishes needs volunteers
Loaves & Fishes at Devens needs volunteers over the age of 18 to help during Open Pantry sessions, especially on Saturday mornings and Tuesday nights. Younger volunteers are also welcome—those younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult— to help stock shelves Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m. and two Friday afternoons a month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. A new volunteer information session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. For information and to register for this session go to www.loavesfishespantry.org or call Karen DeGagne at 978-772-4627 ext. 300.
Prelimary call for artists and crafters
Co-chairs Barbara Cerva and Reba Maisel will host a multi-media gallery show and sale Sunday, Nov. 22, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Congregational Church. This fundraiser will support local craftspeople as well as the Council on Aging. Categories will include photography, woodwork, photography, jewelry, quilting, weaving, folkart, basketry, floral arrangements, and more. The Friends of the Harvard Public Library will deliver books and other library materials to homebound Harvard and Still River patrons. Bagels ’n’ Books groups to start in October
The Harvard Public Library monthly book groups for children grades 3 through 5 will be starting in October. Bagels and cream cheese will be served, accompanying lively book discussions. Sign up for a book group, and a copy of the book will be made available through the library. New members are welcome. Spaces are limited in some groups.
