Ending the season on a positive note, the Bromfield varsity baseball team won its last game of the season at home, beating the Narragansett Warriors in a 5–0 shutout on Wednesday, May 27.
To start off the game, eighth-grader Kindred Atwood came on and faced a single batter, getting him to ground out to third. Afterward, freshman Jackson Harrigan came out to pitch, a planned switch. He dominated, allowing only two hits through six and two-thirds innings.
The game was scoreless until the bottom half of the third, when junior Brendon Keady lined a double to right with two outs, driving in a runner from first. With the 1–0 lead, Harrigan kept on cruising through innings, avoiding tough situations where errors could have been costly. He ended up throwing more than 40 pitches in the third and fourth innings, and he began to wear down a bit.
The Trojans added to their lead in the fifth, scoring four runs, thanks to a two-run base hit by Keady, giving him three RBIs for the day, and an RBI single from sophomore Scott Jarosz. With another run added to the score through an RBI single from sophomore Chris Culkins, Bromfield had a comfortable 5–0 lead and cruised into the seventh inning.
Harrigan finished the ballgame by striking out the side, capping off a performance with 11 strikeouts. Though Harrigan did not pitch a complete game, his performance showed promise for the Trojans’ future.
Bromfield finished its season with a 4–14 record, posting as many wins as last year. Next year the Trojans will be without this year’s seniors Zane Atwood, Andrei Weber, and Michael Jarosz.
