Despite a final-inning threat by the Murdock Blue Devils, the Bromfield baseball team posted its third victory of the season with a 7–5 win in an away game Wednesday, May 20. Sophomore Cam Maddalone and junior Brendon Keady led the Trojan offense with two hits apiece, while freshman starting pitcher Jackson Harrigan threw six-plus innings before giving fellow freshman Rory Van Dorpe the chance to close it out for his first save.
After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans got things going with a run in the second, followed by another in the third to make it 2–0. Harrigan pitched well through the first four innings, striking out seven Blue Devils en route to a strong performance for six innings.
In the fifth, the Trojans added three more runs thanks in part to a double from Maddalone, followed by an RBI single from Keady. Murdock was able to post two runs, though, starting with a triple from Xavier Cepeda in the bottom half of the fifth. Then a few more base hits scored two runs, making it a 5–2 game.
The Trojans tacked on two more runs in the sixth, keeping a 7–2 lead into the last half of the seventh. However, after Harrigan loaded the bases with nobody out, he was replaced by Van Dorpe, having already thrown more than 100 pitches. Van Dorpe struck out the first Blue Devil batter he faced but then gave up a base hit that scored another run. After a sacrifice fly from the next Murdock batter to make it 7–5, the Trojans managed to tag out the runner, who tried to score from third on the throw from center, ending the game.
Bromfield headed into its final week of varsity baseball with two more games scheduled, both at home, against Littleton Tuesday, May 26, and Narragansett Wednesday, May 27.
