This week police made two motor vehicle stops, which resulted in one citation and one verbal warning. The ambulance crew responded to eight medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital, one with Advanced Life Support on board; three people refused treatment. Two people called seeking approval to hold outdoor cooking fires.

Wednesday, May 20
At 1:35 p.m. a caller reported seeing a car attempting to leave the scene of an accident at Sorrento’s Pizzeria. The responding officer reported that the car in question was about to leave when he arrived. The driver said she had bumped into a cement stanchion around a light pole. There was no damage to the stanchion or the car, so the officer cleared the driver to leave. At 9 p.m. a caller reported some suspicious activity in a parking area on South Shaker Road.
Thursday, May 21
A Stow Road resident called at 11 a.m. to report that a construction truck had hit a small tree on his property. Police said the tree was on town property, and they called the Department of Public Works to remove it. At 2:21 p.m. police went to the scene of a two-car accident on Ayer Road. According to police, the driver of the first car tried to make a U-turn in the middle of the road and did not realize there was a car following behind. While making the turn, the first car was struck from behind by the second vehicle. There was minor damage to both cars. The driver of the first car was cited for making an illegal U-turn and failing to use a directional signal.
Friday, May 22
A Pinnacle Road resident called at 2:56 p.m. to report suspicions about a car parked on the roadside in front of a neighbor’s home. Police say the occupant in the parked car was an insurance company representative who was waiting to speak with the caller’s neighbor about an insurance claim.
Saturday, May 23
At 8:05 a.m. police were called to a Finn Road residence to investigate a disturbance there. One person was transported to the hospital. Firefighters were called to extinguish a brush fire on Prospect Hill Road at 7:03 p.m. At 7:06 p.m. another brush fire was reported on Route 2 westbound near exit 37. Police say that fire departments from Harvard, Lancaster, Boxborough, Devens, and Ayer were called to fight the 1,000-by-500-foot blaze, which was eventually extinguished. Ayer police called the station at 7:30 p.m. to ask Harvard officers to check the town-line area for a fugitive who had escaped their custody. The man was not found. State police called at 11:06 p.m. to ask Harvard officers to watch for a car being driven erratically that had exited Route 2 at Harvard, heading toward Ayer. The vehicle was not found.
Sunday, May 24
At 5:05 a.m. Ayer police called for assistance in locating a suspect who may have crossed the town line into Harvard. The man was found by Ayer and Harvard police and was arrested. Police summoned the ambulance to take the man to Nashoba Valley Medical Center for treatment of lacerations related to the incident for which he was arrested. At 9:22 a.m. police went to an Oak Hill Road residence to investigate an abandoned emergency call and requested the ambulance to take one person to the hospital. An officer on patrol on Pinnacle Road at 11:09 p.m. was approached by a car whose driver was honking and flashing high beams. The driver stopped and reported that a car had gone off the road into a rock wall on Littleton Road, near the Littleton-Harvard town line. Police went to the scene and summoned Littleton police after discovering the accident was not in Harvard. Littleton police arrested the driver of the car for operating under the influence of alcohol.
Monday, May 25
At 8:13 a.m. a caller reported a possible problem with a junction box on a utility pole on Ayer Road. Police observed that the doors to the box were open and notified Charter Communications. Police say that Charter technicians arrived and inspected the box and found no problem with it, other than the open doors. At 12:04 p.m. a caller reported that a bicyclist had fallen on Mass. Ave. near the Westward Orchards farm store. Police say the man suffered bruises and abrasions on his back and lacerations on his arms and legs. The ambulance was called, and emergency personnel treated the man’s injuries on the scene. The man refused transport to the hospital.
