After a 41–104 loss to Oakmont last Thursday, the boys’ track and field team rallied for a strong performance at the District Class C meet Saturday at Shrewsbury High School. The team finished ninth out of 20 teams and had two first-place finishes.
A district class meet consists of all the teams in Central Massachusetts in one of three classes based on school size. Bromfield competes in the C class, which contains the smallest schools.
At district level meets, the top six finishers in each event score. Bromfield’s highest finishes came from junior Nick Steele, who won the 800-meter, and senior Price Day, who won the 1-mile. In the field events, junior Beck Peterson placed fourth in the discus, and sophomore Jamie Barrett placed sixth in the pole vault.
Both of the Trojan relay teams scored. The 4×400-meter relay, run by senior Matt Polimou, Barrett, sophomore Tristan Cronin, and Steele, pulled off a strong fourth-place finish. The 4×800-meter relay was run by sophomores Paul Chapman and Will Day, freshman Ryell deRuijter, and Polimou; they placed fifth.
At the Oakmont meet, Bromfield had strong individual performances, with four athletes taking first. Cronin won the 400m, Price Day won the 800m, Steele won both the one mile and the two mile, and Barrett won the pole vault.
The Trojans were next scheduled to compete in the league championships Wednesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 21, at Lunenburg High School.
