Smokey the Bear has returned to the overlook on Ayer Road just in time to watch over the valley for any open-burning fires out of control. District Fire Warden Correia provided Lt. Greg Harrod and firefighter Justin Warren with the Smokey the Bear decal. Then they constructed the new sign and installed it on April 1 just when the open-burning season picked up steam as residents burned their winter debris. Remember, one must call daily for permission for outside burning. The season will be short this year with all the snow and will end on May 1.
Thanks to all who expressed concern over the disappearance of Smokey. It showed the attention he receives in the monitoring of the fire danger.
