This week police made 28 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in nine citations, 18 verbal warnings, and one summons. The ambulance crew responded to four medical emergencies and took four people to the hospital; two people refused treatment.
Tuesday, Feb. 24
A Lancaster County Road resident called at 2:40 a.m. to report a family member missing, but called a short time later to say that the person had arrived home safely. At 8:01 a.m. a caller reported concerns about a large icicle hanging on some utility wires, posing a possible danger to passersby below. The officer who checked it out determined there was no immediate danger and contacted Charter Communications to take care of it. At 8:57 a.m. a caller was concerned about a large brown pit bull-mix dog running loose near the General Store. The dog was gone when police arrived. (Police note that there is no leash law in Harvard.) A motorist on Still River Road called at 11:58 a.m. to report that a tractor-trailer unit had dropped off a trailer in a hazardous location in the center of town. The trailer was gone when police arrived. Someone stopped at the station at 12:28 p.m. to speak with an officer about a possible case of fraud.
Wednesday, Feb. 25
Harvard emergency responders were called by state police to the scene of a three-car accident on Route 2. One person was taken to the hospital; two others refused treatment.
Thursday, Feb. 26
Someone stopped at the station at 11:58 a.m. to turn in a license plate found in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. Police notified the owner. An officer conducting a random license plate check on passing cars on Ayer Road stopped a car at 8:07 p.m. and issued a summons to the operator for driving with a suspended license.
Friday, Feb. 27
At 2:26 p.m. a driver called looking for help with a car stuck in a snowbank. A tow truck was called, and an officer stood by with the car until help arrived. At 2:40 p.m. an employee at the Bromfield School reported an apparent hit-and-run accident after finding damage to her car, which had been parked on Mass. Ave. Police received an emergency call at 6:48 p.m. about a two-car accident on Bolton Road. Police say it was a minor accident that occurred when one car sideswiped another that was headed in the opposite direction. There were no injuries, and no tow truck was needed. The driver of one car was cited for failing to stay within marked lanes.
Saturday, Feb. 28
At 4:04 p.m. a caller reported that a delivery truck was stuck at the end of a driveway on West Bare Hill Road. A tow truck was called, and an officer stood by to direct traffic around the delivery truck until the tow arrived. A Quarry Lane resident called at 8:06 p.m. with concerns about an open garage door at the home of a neighbor who was away on vacation. Police checked the home and the area outside, determined all was secure, and closed the garage door. State police called at 11:45 p.m. requesting backup from Harvard officers at a motor vehicle stop on Route 2.
Sunday, March 1
Police received an emergency call at 2:45 p.m. about a car off the road and on its side on Ayer Road. Police say the car slid off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver was not injured; no citation was issued. Dispatch requested a tow truck and notified Verizon about fixing the pole.
Monday, March 2
At 7:46 a.m. a caller reported a disabled car on Whitney Road. When police arrived, they found that the driver had been assisted by a passerby, and both parties were about to go on their way. An officer on patrol at 1:22 p.m. came across some National Grid workers and equipment in a dangerous spot on Ayer Road. The officer stood by to direct traffic while the workers finished the job. At 1:36 p.m. a motorist reported a low-hanging utility wire on Ayer Road. Police notified National Grid. A caller reported tree limbs on wires on Old Shirley Road at 2:03 p.m. Dispatch contacted Verizon to take care of the situation.
