The Bromfield girls’ indoor track team brought home another win on Wednesday, Jan. 21, with a 55–39 victory over Narragansett. The boys’ team lost with a score of 64–27. Both meets took place at Wachusett Regional High School.
The girls had strong performances across the board, placing in every event they entered. The strongest finishes of the day came in the 55-meter dash and the 55m hurdles, as the Trojans swept both events. In the 55m dash, freshman Anya Begue won, followed by junior Carlisle Ferguson and seventh-grader Liza Toll. Junior Deirdre Kennedy placed first in the 55m hurdles, freshman Cameron Hettich placed second, and sophomore Sarah Doben placed third.
In the distance events Bromfield had only one runner, junior Kate Toll. Toll won both the one- mile and the two-mile, bringing in more points for her team.
With several teammates out sick, the boys’ team had a rough meet, especially in the sprinting events. The Trojans’ strongest performances came in the 1,000m, the 600m, and the shot put.
Senior Price Day won the 1,000m, one of three first-place finishes the Bromfield boys had that day. Sophomore Cole Stecyk won the 600m, followed closely by senior Matt Polimou, who placed second. Rounding out the first-place finishes for Bromfield was the 4 x 400m relay team, which consisted of Stecyk, Polimou, junior Kyle Route, and Day. In the shot put, juniors Beck Peterson and Jon Schmidt placed second and third, respectively.
The Trojans ha one more dual meet left in their season, against Oakmont on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Wachusett Regional High School. Bromfield will compete in the Midland Wachusett C League meet on Monday, Feb. 2, at Fitchburg High School.
