Coming off a tough 71–56 loss to Lexington on Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Bromfield boys’ varsity basketball team rebounded with a 69–45 win over Tahanto on Friday, Jan. 23. The starters for the Trojans were juniors Jake Frackiewicz, Liam Sullivan, Ben Neville, Nick Wyman, and senior Kevin McCauley.
Frackiewicz had a 24-point game at Lexington and helped get things started against Tahanto with four points in the first quarter. Wyman added five of his own, Sullivan recorded six, Neville added two, and junior Mikey Brockmann came off the bench to nail down three more, as well. The Stags were held to just seven points in the quarter, compared with 20 for Bromfield. Before the quarter ended, though, junior Ryan Bollman was accidentally struck in the face by the ball, forcing him to leave the game for the rest of the quarter.
The second quarter featured an outburst of offense from the Trojans as they overwhelmed the Stags with 22 points. Six of them came from Frackiewicz, five from freshman Jackson Harrigan, six more from Neville, and another set of five by Brockmann. Tahanto managed to get 11 more points, but Bromfield had a huge 42–18 lead by halftime.
After that burst of offense, Bromfield cooled down in the third quarter, scoring only 12 points to 13 from Tahanto, but the Trojans still managed to hold an impressive lead. Wyman, McCauley, Frackiewicz, Neville, and Brockmann gathered the 12 points for the Trojans, giving them a safe 54–31 lead over the Stags.
In the final quarter, Bromfield finished with 15 more points: four from sophomore Ross MacMahon, three more from Frackiewicz, and two each from Harrigan, Neville, Bollman, and Wyman. With that, the Trojans cruised to victory.
Frackiewicz was the top scorer of the night with 16 points, followed by Neville with 13, and Brockmann with 10.
“It’s good to get back over 500,” said Trojan Coach Ryan Kilian after the game.
