Spa day
Seniors are invited up to Hildreth House for relaxation and pampering Monday, Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants can enjoy a back massage (compliments of Bancroft School of Massage), hand massage (compliments of a local Avon representative), a foot soak/scrub/massage (Youtopia Day Spa, $5 for 10 minutes), or a manicure. Light, healthy refreshments will be served. Call 978-456-4120 to say whether you will attend.
Beware fraudulent phone callers
Council on Aging Director Deborah Thompson is warning people to watch out for fraudulent phone calls. Thompson reports that some seniors have reported calls from people purporting to be from the IRS and attempting to elicit information or get a call back. Thompson’s advice: “The IRS will not call you. Never give out any personal information over the phone.”
Holiday lunch Dec. 18
The Council on Aging will host its annual holiday lunch Thursday, Dec. 18, at noon at Hildreth House. Lasagna, salad, bread, and dessert from Filho’s will be served to celebrate the holiday season. Along with lunch, participants will sing some holiday favorites with Debbie and Bob, so start practicing now for the sing-a-long. Sign up by Thursday, Dec. 11, at 978-456-4120. The event is limited to 40 people, so early sign-up is recommended. Lunch is free, but donations are appreciated.
Safety tip presentation
The Harvard Police Department will present a talk on safety tips and how to fill out the “File of Life” document, which is important because it speaks for you in an emergency when you cannot speak for yourself. The file shows emergency contacts, medication allergies, medical conditions, and whether you have a Do Not Resuscitate or Comfort Care order in place. (The “File of Life” is not a valid DNR or Comfort Care order). Come hear what the police have to say on this topic Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 12:30 p.m.
Holiday tea for seniors
The Harvard Girl Scouts will host their annual holiday tea for seniors Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. at St. Theresa Church Deacon Hall.
