Trash drop-off at the Transfer Station used to be simple. You drove in, picked one of the four possible trash drop-off lanes (one on either side of the two compactors), and then you either waited for the person in front of you to finish or you parked and dumped your trash while the person in front of you got in their car or was grabbing the next barrel to dump. It was smooth and efficient, either way.
Since the trash compactors have moved to the top of the hill, I’ve noticed a trend for a driver to stop at the crest of the hill and wait to decide which lane best suits them. In the meantime, everyone else behind that car is waiting and wasting time. I took a picture recently of six cars in line, with two approaching (eight cars)!
I would like to request that the four trash lines be treated like lines at the grocery store or like toll lanes on the Pike; you make a decision, get in your chosen lane, and don’t stop the flow of traffic. The person at the front has the right to pick their lane first, but they don’t have a right to waste other people’s time. If you create a line on the hill, don’t be surprised if people pass on the left.
