I recently posted on an online forum stating we do not need to raise the CPC tax by 200 percent when the CPC already has $900,000 in the bank. I also questioned justification put forth that we should raise the tax so we can get more (taxpayer) money from the state in matching funds. How much money does a committee in a small town such as Harvard need to have in the bank? Why do we need to transfer $250,000 to HCC for an unspecified land acquisition? How much more land does the town need to purchase at the expense of the citizenry?
This is “meaningful and productive” discourse.
I respect the decision in 2001 of the Harvard voters to adopt the law and I appreciate the history, but I was hoping Consider This would present a position contrary to what I have clearly stated, but the article fell short. I was encouraged to read that the board is considering the risks and benefits of increasing the tax, but I was discouraged to read what I interpreted as Mr. Chadran lobbying for the increase in the last section of his article.
If a motion is ever made to increase this tax by 200 percent, I hope those of you who have read this letter and my online posts remember my respectful opinions.
