Having already fallen short of victory in its two previous games, Bromfield boys’ varsity soccer extended its losing streak to three in a row in a 2-0 defeat from Groton-Dunstable at Depot Field on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Bromfield had been held to just one goal in the past two games against Tahanto and then Oakmont. The Trojans hoped to end the skid at two, but things did not go smoothly for them in the first half. Multiple defensive issues gave Trojan goalie Tyler Brandom a tough time guarding the net, while Groton put a lot of pressure on the defense and was able to take advantage of passing miscues to create turnovers.
Brandom’s saves kept Bromfield in the game for a while, but then Matt Tornaritis scored the game’s first goal for Groton, setting the score at 1-0. Bromfield made many attempts to even it up before half’s end, but the team was halted by the Groton defense.

In the second half, Bromfield did attempt to immediately take the offensive and was able to get through Groton’s defense, almost scoring. Sadly, though, the Trojan defense was still struggling and let Groton make plenty of breakaways toward the goal. The defense wasn’t able to hold out for long as Matt Krikorian scored the second goal for Groton, putting the game out of reach for Bromfield.
The Trojans tried to make their own breakaways toward the goal count, but they went for naught as things continued to deteriorate offensively for Bromfield. To make matters worse, sophomore Omar Al-Homsi was taken out of the game with a leg injury.
Bromfield’s next game in the schedule is at Sutton on Oct. 24, as the team continues to try to earn a top seed for the playoffs. Bromfield is currently first in the Mid-Wachusett C Division League with a 7-2 season record.
