A formidable legal mind and stamina for town government

October 24, 2014

I am excited to support Deb Thomson for selectman. I am confident that Deb will approach the role with intelligence, fairness, and an open mind. As a former School Committee member, I recall seeing that in town board discussions, it often seemed the town’s constituents were being pitted against each other when it came to the disposition of limited financial resources. Deb understands that the character and vibrancy of Harvard depends precisely on balancing the needs and interests of young families, empty nesters, and elders alike. In her professional life, Deb advocates for elders and will use her knowledge to help serve their unique interests to help retain this important segment of our town. At the same time, she will advocate for our schools, recognizing that an excellent educational system benefits everyone in the community.

Most importantly, Deb brings a formidable legal mind and stamina for the byzantine process, regulatory aspects, and hidden ramifications that accompany many of the issues that come before the BOS. Instead of the pre-determined stance on issues that so many candidates articulate at election time, Deb is deeply committed to listening and to the process. Finally, her commitment to civil discourse and respect for all who serve the town will help alleviate the tendency for rancor and restore a healthy focus on the issues that affect all of us over the long term.
