This week police made 31 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in 17 written warnings, 14 verbal warnings, one arrest and one summons. The Harvard ambulance responded to five emergency calls and took four people to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. One person was deceased.
Tuesday, Sept. 9: An officer on patrol at 8:07 a.m. came across some heavy equipment that had been left in the roadway on Depot Road and stood by to direct traffic while the operator moved it. At 1:54 p.m. a caller notified police that, during the clean-out of a relative’s home on Littleton Road, an old pistol and ammunition were found. The caller said the items would be dropped off at the station for disposal. A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 3:18 p.m. to report a phone scam. Someone called the station at 7:06 p.m. to report seeing an elderly person hitchhiking on Ayer Road. An officer located and spoke to the hitchhiker and determined there was no cause for concern.
Wednesday, Sept. 10: A Shaker Road resident called at 7:06 a.m. to report a very large tree limb in the roadway. The Department of Public Works was notified, and an officer directed traffic while the limb was removed with a front-end loader. At 9:44 a.m. Chelmsford police called because they had been unsuccessful in reaching a Harvard resident. Harvard police went to the home and left a message for the residents. At 4:37 p.m. a Harvard resident stopped at the station to ask that an officer be present during the exchange of some property with another person. A caller reported a car being driven erratically on Woodchuck Hill Road at 5:47 p.m. Police did not locate the vehicle.
Thursday, Sept. 11: An officer on patrol at 11:23 a.m. stopped to investigate an occupied car with Maine plates parked in an orchard on Bolton Road. Police say the occupant was a crop appraiser doing some work for an insurance company. An officer on patrol at 11:49 a.m. came upon a large equipment trailer blocking a lane on Slough Road. The officer asked the contractor who owned the trailer to move it. At 11:59 a.m. a caller reported that two mattresses and a propane tank had been dumped on the side of Shaker Road. Police asked the DPW to remove the items. A resident on Candleberry Lane told police at 1:40 p.m. that someone had stopped at the home seeking donations for the Marine Corps, but no one at the home had contacted the Marine Corps about a pickup. The caller said that the person had driven away in a sporty white car. Police did not locate the vehicle. An officer on patrol at 1:50 p.m. found a large truck blocking the intersection of East Bare Hill and Armstrong roads. Police contacted the owner, who said that the truck had been stuck, but he was eventually able to move it. While doing a random license plate check on Shaker Road at 5:34 p.m., an officer stopped a car driven by a Harvard resident and issued the driver a summons for operating an unregistered vehicle and for operating without a license.
Friday, Sept. 12
At 9:54 a.m. a caller reported that trash was flying into the roadway out of a dump truck that was headed toward Ayer. Police did not locate the truck. At 1:18 p.m. police and the ambulance responded to a call about an unattended death on Trail Ridge Way. An Old Littleton Road resident called at 6:04 p.m. for permission to have a cooking fire. A caller reported at 6:27 p.m. that some teens at McCurdy Track were acting suspiciously. Police found that the youths were in the process of building a fort in the woods; an officer spoke to their parents.
Saturday, Sept. 13
A Harvard resident stopped at the station at 9:44 a.m. to log a report about a bank notification of fraudulent activity on a checking account. At 10:59 a.m. a Littleton Road resident called to report a suspicious person in the area. The person was gone when police arrived to investigate. A caller reported at 12:20 p.m. that there was a tree on some wires on Massachusetts Avenue near the Boxborough town line. Police did not find the tree in Harvard, so alerted Boxborough police to look for it. At the same time, a call came in about a tree leaning on wires on Ayer Road. Police say there were no electrical wires involved, so they advised the DPW to remove the tree. An officer on patrol on Ayer Road at 4:51 p.m. did a random plate check of a passing car and discovered the driver’s license had been revoked. The driver, Shirley resident Michael D. Labbe, 50, was arrested and charged with operating with a revoked license. A woman called at 8:38 p.m. to report that her cell phone had been stolen at the Fall Festival, but she later called again to say that she had found it. Police say someone had found the phone and turned it in to a festival official. Police were called to assist Littleton officers with a neighborhood disturbance in Littleton at 9:46 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 14
At 3:49 p.m. police were called to assist Boxborough officers at the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Boxborough. At 6:38 p.m. police responded to a house alarm notification from an Abbot Lane residence, and discovered that someone had broken into the home by forcing a way through a sliding glass door. According to Sgt. John Coates, it has not been determined what may have been stolen. The case is under investigation.
Monday, Sept. 15
A resident on Trail Ridge Way called at 6:17 p.m. with a complaint about a MassPIRG canvasser who had come to the door. Police went to the home and spoke with the canvasser and found the person had the proper paperwork authorizing the canvassing.
