During the week of Sept. 16 through Sept. 22, the police made 27 motor vehicle stops, issuing one summons, 14 tickets, and 11 verbal warnings. The ambulance responded to seven emergency calls.
Tuesday, Sept. 16
Responding to a 9:28 a.m. 911 call from an Ayer Road resident, the ambulance transported a female patient to Emerson Hospital. At 3:52 p.m. an officer reported finding gravel on Oak Hill Road and called the Department of Public Works to remove it. At 8:28 p.m. police were asked to look for a Harvard driver who had allegedly failed to pay for gas at a Pennsylvania filling station. But the license plate number that prompted the investigation proved to be incorrect and the suspect innocent.
Wednesday, Sept. 17
At 9:22 p.m. the ambulance responded to an emergency call on Poor Farm Road and transported a male patient to Emerson Hospital with advanced life support (ALS) personnel on board. A woman called at 9:33 a.m. to complain that she had been run off the road by a large truck as she exited the ExxonMobil station on Ayer Road. The caller was unable to provide enough details for the Harvard police to identify the vehicle. The ambulance responded to a 3:05 p.m. call from an Ayer Road apartment and transported a female patient to Emerson Hospital with ALS on board. Bolton police called Harvard at 6:09 p.m. to ask for help locating a car that had been involved in an accident and was headed into Harvard. The car was not found. Police received a report of a disabled vehicle on Still River Road at 8:04 p.m. When an officer investigated, the vehicle was gone. A Bolton Road resident reported at 9 p.m. that a woman had come to her house asking if she sold sheep. Police were unable to locate the individual and concluded that, given the presence of other sheep breeders in the area, it was a case of mistaken address. At 10:30 p.m. a Mass. Avenue resident reported that a black and white dog had gone missing.
Thursday, Sept. 18
Police responded to a 911 call at 2:43 a.m. reporting suspicious activity at a Shaker Road residence. The ambulance transported a male patient from the home to Emerson Hospital, but the incident remains under investigation. At 10:10 a.m. an Eldridge Road resident reported seeing a young school-age male walking down the street with a fishing pole. An officer investigated but was unable to locate the would-be Huck Finn. Boxborough police called at 4:30 p.m. to request backup for the investigation of an individual who had violated a harassment protection order and was thought to have firearms. Police arrested the suspect after finding three to four unsecured guns in the man’s Mass. Avenue office. At 10:27 p.m. the ambulance transported a patient from a Babbitt Lane apartment to a local hospital.
Friday, Sept. 19
A woman called at 8:20 a.m. to report that an unknown man was in her Poor Farm residence. He was a workman who had come to the wrong address. At 12:52 p.m. a Shaker Road resident complained that a large construction vehicle was occupying a blind curve in the road and endangering traffic. When police arrived, the vehicle was leaving. An Oak Hill Road resident called at 8:13 p.m. to report that a tree was leaning against some nearby wires. The police contacted National Grid. At 9:24 p.m., responding to a 911 call, the ambulance transported a female patient from a Myrick Lane residence to the Nashoba Valley Medical Center with ALS personnel on board.
Saturday, Sept. 20
A Littleton Road resident called at 7:05 a.m. to report hit-and-run damage to her property. Police located the driver, who was from Harvard. He was charged with failing to stay within marked lanes and agreed to pay for the damaged property. At 9:27 a.m. a Carlson Orchards employee called to report that a customer had made purchases at its store with a stolen credit card. The store had been without power and unable to use its card machine. When power was restored, the purchases, which totaled $54, were declined by the card issuer. Police have checked the store video but have so far been unable to identify a suspect. A woman living on Littleton Road called at 5:17 p.m. to report that water pressure in her home was low. Police advised the DPW. At 6:24 p.m. police investigated a report of a break-in at a Sheep Island cottage. Three teenagers, who had been canoeing on Bare Hill Pond, had entered the building, assuming, they told police, that it was unoccupied. They said they had not meant to do any damage. The owner declined to press charges. A 911 call at 9:21 p.m. brought police to the intersection of Ayer and Old Shirley roads where a vehicle had struck and knocked down some stop signs, leaving a license plate among its detritus. The driver, Worcester resident Martin Harvey, was summoned to appear in Clinton District Court.
Sunday, Sept. 21
Police, fire, and ambulance were called by state police to the scene of a single-car accident on Route 2 at 5:31 a.m. One occupant was transported to Emerson by the Ayer ambulance. At 11:27 a.m. police investigated 911 calls made from a Tahanto Trail residence. The calls were made accidentally by a resident trying to reach a number in India. A Pond Road resident asked police at 12:10 p.m. to investigate a pontoon boat thought to be sinking in Bare Hill Pond. The responding officer found that the boat was properly covered for the winter and was not sinking. At 11:25 p.m. Ayer police asked Harvard to help with a domestic incident involving a 14 year-old, but the responding officer was called back before arriving at the scene.
Monday, Sept. 22
At 11:25 a.m. a Jacob Gates Road resident complained of receiving repeated, harassing phone solicitations from a group claiming to represent “paralyzed and disabled veterans.” Police are investigating. A Glenview Drive resident reported hearing a loud boom, followed by a loss of power at about 12:10 p.m.. A tree had fallen on some nearby power lines. National Grid was notified. Police stopped a vehicle on Old Shirley Road at 2:57 p.m. and issued a summons to the female Leominster driver for operating with a suspended license. A female caller reported spotting a suspicious vehicle parked at the intersection of South Shaker and Shaker roads at 6:42 p.m. An officer spoke with its owner who was taking a walk in the area.
