Even though the apple crop is light this year (see this week’s article), Carlson, Doe, and Westward orchards have plenty of apples for picking and in the store, and Old Frog Pond Farm has a bumper crop of PYO raspberries. The weather promises to be beautiful this weekend, so head out to an orchard and pick something!
Carlson Orchards, 115 Oak Hill Road
PYO Cortland, Gala, and McIntosh apples, PYO raspberries. Possibly PYO blueberries; check the website. Honeycrisp, Gala, Ginger Gold, and McIntosh apples, peaches in the store. Brookdale Fruit Farm’s sweet corn, tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, green peppers, green and wax beans, watermelons, eggplant, butternut and acorn squash, gourds, pumpkins. Locally grown mums.
Doe Orchards, 327 Ayer Road
PYO McIntosh, Cortland, Gala, and early Fuji apples. McIntosh, Cortland, Gala, Ginger Gold, and Honeycrisp apples at the stand. Pumpkins, gourds, and their own honey and jam.
Harvard General Store, 1 Still River Road
Apples and peaches from Carlson Orchards. Winter squash and a variety of other produce from Harper’s Farm and Maple Valley Farm.
Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road
PYO raspberries. Asian pears, Swiss chard, kale, beets, potatoes, and tomatoes at the stand. Their own Raspberry Very Lo Sugar Jam. All crops certified organic by Baystate Certifiers.
Westward Orchards, 178 Mass Ave.
PYO and in-store Ginger Gold, early Gala, McIntosh, Cortland, and Macoun apples. Yellow and white peaches, Bosc, Bartlett, and Seckle pears, Stanley prune plums, nectarines, watermelon, beets, cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, kale, parsley, peppers, radishes, summer squash, tomatoes, and zucchini in the store.
Willard Farm, 218 Still River Road
Bi-color and white corn, tomatoes, peppers, hot peppers, Red Norland, Kennebec, and Green Mountain potatoes, winter squash, and pumpkins.
