This week police made seven motor vehicle stops, which resulted in three written warnings, three verbal warnings, and one arrest. The ambulance answered eight calls and transported 11 patients to area hospitals.
Tuesday, Aug. 12
At 10:59 a.m. someone called to report hearing what sounded like a revving engine and then squealing brakes somewhere on Simon Atherton Row. The officer who responded found a motorcycle down in the roadway; the driver had minor visible injuries. Police say the bike went down when the driver lost control while allegedly speeding. The driver refused medical treatment and was cited for speeding, a marked lanes violation, and not having a license in his possession. At 6:30 p.m. someone called in a 911 medical emergency after finding a woman lying on the ground by her car at the overlook on Prospect Hill Road. According to police, the woman said she had pulled over because she wasn’t feeling well and then fell when getting out of her car. She was taken by ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. Someone called at 7:37 p.m. to report a tree down on wires on Depot Road. Police say the tree was resting on telephone lines. They notified Verizon, which said it would take care of it the following day. At 8:15 p.m. police responded to the scene of a two-car accident on Slough Road at Massachusetts Avenue, which occurred when the driver of one car failed to yield at a stop sign and broadsided another car that was traveling on the intersecting road. The driver of the first car, a juvenile from Stow, had three passengers in the car, all juvenile girls from Harvard. The woman driving the second car was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by police. The juvenile driver was issued a summons to appear in court on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, illegal use of a mobile phone, being a junior operator with a passenger under age 18, causing a negligent operation injury from mobile phone use, failing to yield at a stop sign, and speeding. Four people were taken by ambulance to Emerson Hospital; one was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Wednesday, Aug. 13
At 9:53 a.m. a caller reported a larceny from a farmstand’s honor-system lock box. The case is under investigation. A caller notified police at 10:13 a.m. that there was a tree down on some wires on Glenview Drive and that power was out in the area. Police notified National Grid, which sent out a tree removal crew. At 11:08 a.m. a caller reported that a disabled car was in the middle of the roadway on Whitney Road. Police ordered a tow truck to collect it. An employee at a doctor’s office on Ayer Road called at 3:22 p.m. to report concerns about a patient who had become upset when his request to refill his medication was refused. Police found the man outside the office waiting for a ride and advised him not to return. Bolton police called at 3:28 p.m. to advise Harvard officers to watch for a black pickup truck headed into Harvard from Bolton Orchards. The Bolton officer reported that someone had called them after the driver of the truck had stopped to ask for directions and behaved in an unusual manner. A Harvard officer located the truck and stopped it to question the driver. Police say the man was simply hard of hearing. An officer on patrol at 9:05 p.m. came across some tree debris in the roadway on Littleton Road and removed it.
Thursday, Aug. 14
At 5:16 p.m. Harvard police went to the aid of Bolton officers who had reported a possible breaking-and-entering incident in progress on Vaughn Hill Road in Bolton. Police say it was a false alarm and that everything checked out OK at the home. A caller reported a car being driven erratically on Myrick Lane at 9:11 p.m., but the car was gone when police arrived to investigate.
Friday, Aug. 15
Someone stopped at the station at 2:54 p.m. to report losing a ring while kayaking. An officer on patrol at 7:51 p.m. found three youths in a car parked near Bellevue Cemetery. The officer advised them that no trespassing was allowed in the cemetery. Police speculate that the youths, from Weymouth, Scituate, and Marshfield, may have been ghost hunting. At 8:13 p.m. a Pinnacle Road resident called to report that someone was walking around on her property. She told police she smelled cigarette smoke and then saw someone outside dressed in black. Police checked the area but did not find anyone. A caller reported at 8:48 p.m. that someone was driving a tractor around the parking lot at Bromfield. Police say it was the town’s line-painting crew. An officer on patrol at 10:49 p.m. advised the occupants of a car parked at the town beach that it was time to move along, since the beach was closed.
Saturday, Aug. 16
An officer on patrol at 1:03 a.m. observed a vehicle with its hazard lights on being driven erratically and very slowly on Ayer Road near Town Hall. He stopped the car and subsequently arrested the driver, Denise Phon Ban, 38, of Harvard, on charges of operating under the influence of liquor, violating marked lanes, and child endangerment. The ambulance was called to a location on Whitney Road, where a skateboarder had fallen. The boarder was subsequently transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Sunday, Aug. 17
At 12:15 a.m. a caller reported that there was a 24-foot boat out on the pond, filled with people having a raucous party and playing loud music. Police checked the area but did not hear anything or see the boat. At 10:10 a.m. the ambulance crew responded to an emergency call on Old Schoolhouse Road, where a long-boarder had fallen. They took the skater to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. At 11:40 a.m. someone on Turner Lane called to report that a pontoon boat on the pond appeared to be sinking. Police were unable to assist but spoke to a neighbor who offered to contact the boat’s owner. Someone reported what they thought was a person selling drugs from a car parked at Bromfield at 3:10 p.m. Police found the car, whose owner said he was not selling drugs but was making lunch for kids who were skateboarding nearby. The officer checked the car and confirmed that there were no drugs present.
Monday, Aug. 18
Someone called at 2:12 p.m. to report a possible squatter living on Pine Ridge Drive. Police investigated but did not find a squatter. Someone stopped at the station at 3:03 p.m. to report a past burglary from a vehicle, in which a camera was stolen. The case is under investigation.
