This week police made four motor vehicle stops, which resulted in one written warning and three verbal warnings. The Harvard ambulance responded to eight emergency calls and took five people to Nashoba Valley Medical Center and two to Emerson Hospital. One person refused treatment.
Tuesday, Aug. 19
A Finn Road resident called the station at 12:30 a.m. to report that the family dog had just escaped from the house. At 2:55 p.m. a caller reported there was a couple engaged in amorous behavior in a car parked at the ball field on Ann Lees Road. An officer advised them to move on. Someone called the station at 3:56 p.m. to notify police that a no-trespass order had been served related to property in Harvard. An Ayer Road resident called to report that her car had been struck by another car while she was turning into her driveway. Police say the driver of the car that struck the homeowner’s car was cited for passing on the right. There were no injuries. At 6:19 p.m. a fire officer noticed smoke coming from an Ayer Road residence and upon investigating found a cooking fire in progress. The residents were advised to notify dispatch about any future outdoor cooking fires. At 11:17 p.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called with concerns about people in front of her house talking. The people were gone when police arrived to investigate.
Wednesday, Aug. 20
At 4:38 p.m. someone called with concerns about a vehicle that had been parked at a Poor Farm Road residence for quite a while. Police spoke with the property owner, who told them that the vehicle was his and had been there for 18 years. Someone called at 10:17 p.m. to report smelling and seeing smoke on Depot Road. A fire officer investigated and found a small cooking fire in progress. The homeowner subsequently extinguished it.
Thursday, Aug. 21
A caller reported at 9:29 a.m. that a car being driven erratically had been seen on Ayer Road, headed north. Ayer police were notified to watch for it. At 9:35 a.m. a caller reported that the small sailboat belonging to the Parks and Recreation Commission was missing from its mooring. Police ask that anyone seeing the boat call the station. A Massachusetts Ave. resident called at 12:07 p.m. to report that a FedEx delivery truck may have been involved in an accident on a neighbor’s property; and the caller speculated that this could be why the neighbor was missing a package that was expected. Police contacted FedEx, who said that there had been no accident, but there had been a delivery mix-up. At 3:56 p.m. Ayer police called to say they had received a call from someone whose car window had been smashed by a rock, possibly from minors throwing rocks at cars near the Appleworks building on Ayer Road. Harvard police checked the area but couldn’t find any evidence to support the rock-throwing theory. At 4:15 p.m. a caller reported that an unoccupied car had been parked on Westcott Road all day. Police found that it was a disabled car and contacted the owner to have it moved. Police were called to a Littleton County Road residence at 10:44 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a domestic situation there. Police say it was a verbal dispute among family members, which was resolved by the time they arrived. The parties involved were advised of their rights under Massachusetts General Laws A209A regarding domestic abuse protection.
Friday, Aug. 22
At 11:12 p.m. a caller reported excessively loud music coming from an outdoor party on Ayer Road. An officer went to the scene and asked the revelers to keep the noise down.
Saturday, Aug. 23
An officer on patrol at 3:54 a.m. stopped to investigate an unoccupied car with its hazard lights on parked behind Town Hall. At 6:27 a.m. a caller reported that his car had struck a tree on South Shaker Road. Police say the man told them that he was reaching for something inside the car and briefly took his eyes off the road. He consequently failed to negotiate a turn and hit the tree. The ambulance took the driver to Nashoba Valley Medical Center; the car was towed. No citations were issued. Someone called at 7:42 a.m. with suspicions about a car parked at the Grapevine on Ayer Road. Police say the car belonged to an employee who was there stocking shelves. Someone from the Conservation Commission called at 9:36 a.m. to report that there might be a campsite on conservation land on Pine Ridge Drive. Police investigated and found what they say was a well-kept campsite, although there was no one there; no property damage was evident. The Conservation Commission later left a notice of violation at the site for the campers. At 11:32 a.m. an Old Mill Road resident called to report that a tractor-trailer unit was stuck on the road. Police say the truck driver had failed to notice the sign warning that there was no access to Devens from Old Mill Road. An officer went to the scene and assisted the driver in getting out onto the main road. Someone called at 6:48 p.m. to let police know that there would be people camping out overnight in the woods near the town beach and that their car would be parked at the beach. Boxborough police called at 11:20 p.m. to ask for the assistance in responding to a call from the Holiday Inn about people who didn’t pay their bill and were refusing to leave the premises.
Sunday, Aug. 24
Someone called at 8:08 a.m. to complain about a loud public address system in use at a neighbor’s on Ayer Road. Police went to the residence and asked that the noise be kept down. At 4:49 p.m. police received a call from someone who had been bicycling on Littleton Road and had encountered a young girl who seemed disoriented. Police arrived and helped the girl find her way home.
Monday, Aug. 25
An officer on patrol at 8 a.m. stopped to check out a disabled vehicle on Ayer Road. The driver was already making arrangements to have the car towed. A Finn Road resident called at 10:25 a.m. with concerns about a man who appeared to be taking notes as he walked along the road. Police say the man was a guest at a nearby residence and was simply out for a walk, making notes of interesting things along the way. Police were called to the scene of a two-car accident on Ayer Road at 10:34 a.m. The cars had struck each other while one was pulling into traffic and the other was pulling out. One driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way. There were no injuries; both cars were drivable.
