Harvard Farmers’ Market
The Harvard Farmers’ Market will open for the season Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hildreth Elementary School. The Paveo Family Band will perform. In addition to many returning vendors, new participants this year will include Piantedosi Bread Company, Muddy Water Coffee Roasters, Lilac Hedge Farm, Westward Orchards, and Venier Forge Knife Sharpeners. World War II Program
The Fort Devens Museum will present a special exhibit of World War II items from 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 94 Jackson Road, Devens, third floor. The small exhibit will showcase a diary, photograph albums, and insignia including that of Col. James “Jumpin’ Jim” Gavin. (Also on display will be a rare Vietnam leopard pattern camouflage uniform.) At 1 p.m., Shirley resident and World War II veteran Joe Landry will show some videos relating to World War II memorials and share some of his own experiences and photographs. Peach Festival
Carlson Orchards will host its 12th annual Peach Festival Saturday, Aug. 16, and Sunday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—rain or shine—at the orchard, 115 Oak Hill Road. Participants can enjoy hayrides, music, peach-picking, and tastings offered by the Mass. Specialty Food Association. Basket Workshop
Fruitlands Museum will offer a “Basket Bombing Workshop” Friday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. at 102 Prospect Hill Road. Using simple weaving techniques and traditional basket-making materials, participants will create baskets to be installed across the Fruitlands landscape. No experience required; all materials provided. Free with admission, which is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $5 for children ages 5 to 13, and free for members and children under 5.
Legacy of Clara Sears
Fruitlands Museum will host an illustrated slide lecture about the founder of the Fruitlands Museum Sunday, Aug. 23, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the museum. Dr. Cecilia Macheski will present “Clara Endicott Sears: A Biography and a Legacy,” which will illuminate the mercurial energy, diverse interests, and unique vision of museum founder Clara Endicott Sears. Free Friday at Museum
The Highland Street Foundation will sponsor free admission at the Museum of Russian Icons Friday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum, 203 Union St., Clinton. Free Showing of ‘Chasing Ice’
