Tuesday, July 1
At 1:43 p.m. a caller reported a large pothole on Pond Road. Police notified the Department of Public Works. An officer on patrol at 9:37 p.m. made note of an unoccupied car parked at a conservation area on Still River Road. At 11:20 p.m. a caller notified police that there were three cars parked at the town beach. The investigating officer reported that all the cars, which were unoccupied, belonged to Harvard residents.
Wednesday, July 2
An Oak Hill Road resident stopped at the station at 10:03 a.m. to request a police patrol in his area after finding that someone had gone through the mail in his mailbox and had left it on the ground. A woman called at 2:54 p.m. to report that a car had gone off the road on Gebo Lane. The driver had minor injuries and refused treatment and transport to the hospital. No charges were filed. At 3:38 p.m. a caller reported an underage drinking party in progress at the railroad bridge on Still River Depot Road and said that the youths were jumping off the bridge into the water. Police say the youths were given a verbal no-trespass warning and were advised to move along. At 6:02 p.m. a caller reported that there was a collie-mix dog loose on Still River Road. Animal control was notified. At 9:51 p.m. a woman reported finding a dog during the evening’s fireworks event. Police say the dog was turned over to animal control.
Thursday, July 3
At 9:08 a.m. a Glenview Drive resident called to report receiving a phone call from a man who claimed she owed back taxes. Police say the woman was advised it was likely a phone scam. State police requested assistance from the Harvard ambulance at the scene of a two-car accident on Route 2, where multiple people suffered injuries. The Harvard ambulance took two people to Leominster Hospital; Devens and Littleton ambulances transported the remaining injured.
Friday, July 4
The remnant of Hurricane Arthur left downed trees in its wake in Harvard. Police received reports of trees down at 12:38 a.m. and 2:37 a.m. on Littleton Road; at 1:52 a.m. on Littleton County Road; at 7:39 a.m. on Depot Road; and at 7:50 a.m. on Craggs Road. Police say that officers moved the trees and branches that they could and notified the DPW about the others. At 9:04 a.m. the ambulance transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Deerfoot Trail residence. At 12:12 p.m. a Harvard detective spoke with a Sherry Road resident regarding information about a larceny at the home several months ago. Police say a suspect has been identified and that a summons is being prepared to bring that person, a New Hampshire resident, to court on related charges. At 12:55 p.m. a caller reported suspicions about someone picnicking on the Common in the rain. The investigating officer reported that there was no cause for concern. An officer on patrol at 1:09 p.m. came across a tree on some wires on Littleton Road and notified the DPW and National Grid. The ambulance crew responded to a medical emergency at St. Anne’s House on Still River Road at 10:05 p.m. and transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Saturday, July 5
At 9:03 a.m. the ambulance crew responded to an emergency medical call on Myrick Lane and found that the patient had died. The state police and medical examiner were notified, as per the procedure for an unattended death. A woman stopped at the station at 11:42 a.m. to file a report that one of the American flags mounted on utility poles in the center of town had fallen and damaged her car mirror. At 2:53 p.m. a woman called to report a rumor passed on by her daughter that some teens were heading for the railroad bridge on Still River Depot Road to do some diving. A caller reported a tree down on some wires on West Bare Hill Road at 3:59 p.m. Police say an officer was able to move the tree off the wires. At 8:38 p.m. a Madigan Lane resident reported hearing gunshots. An officer checked the area but did not locate anyone. Police speculate that it may have been fireworks. The Lancaster Fire Department called at 10:56 p.m. to request assistance from the Harvard FD at a fire in Lancaster.
Sunday, July 6
A caller reported a disabled vehicle on Bolton Road at 1 a.m. An officer located the car and stood by while the driver awaited a tow truck. At 5:47 a.m. a caller reported an object in the roadway on Route 2. Police referred the incident to the state police. At 12:31 p.m. a caller reported vandalism at the Bromfield School. Police say someone had spray-painted on the rock in front of the school and on the roadway, but no one was found in the area.
Monday, July 7
At 8:56 a.m. a Poor Farm Road resident called with concerns about an unfamiliar car parked in the area. Police say it belonged to a man who was authorized to clear brush on nearby property. At 3:01 p.m. a woman stopped at the station to report a possible case of larceny and fraud related to work she had contracted to be done at her home. After interviewing the woman, police determined that it was a civil matter between the woman and the contractor. A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 3:13 p.m. to report that a motorcycle had just gone down in the roadway. Police say the motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, and the bike was hauled away by a tow truck. A storm with high winds and rain downed more trees Monday evening. The DPW was dispatched to take care of trees reported down on South Shaker Road at 5:16 p.m.; on Littleton Road at 5:20 p.m.; on Shaker Road at 5:28 p.m.; and on Old Littleton Road at 5:35 p.m. At 5:49 p.m. a caller reported concerns about skateboarders on Old Schoolhouse Road. An officer found the skateboarders and asked them to move along. At 6:44 p.m. a Littleton Road resident called after just learning from her daughter that a man driving a white Volkswagen sedan had stopped in front of the home a couple of hours earlier and had opened the mailbox. She said it did not appear that anything was taken from or added to the mailbox.
