I am thrilled to share that Applewild School is opening a preschool and transportation hub at Devens on September 2. Applewild at Devens will open at 27 Jackson Road., the second building off Route 2 that also houses the Mt. Wachusett Community College. The Center will house a year-round preschool and child care facility for ages 2.9 to 5 and also contain a transportation and activity hub for K-8 students attending Applewild School in Fitchburg.
Our team of experienced early childhood educators, led by Director Sherri Ebner, will meet a need articulated by the evergrowing business community at Devens. This brand-new facility will provide a high quality option for families who use the Route 2 corridor or work at Devens and seek curricular-based child care. Applewild at Devens will follow the same principles and curriculum as the preschool on our main campus.
Overlooking a nature-based playground, the preschool’s program will include enriched literacy, science and math programs, an art studio, yoga, music and movement, and extensive use of the outdoor classroom for nature exploration and gardening. Occasional connections between the satellite and the Applewild School main campus will add to the enrichment of the program.
The center will serve the dual purpose of transportation hub for Applewild. Families interested in the K–8 Applewild program who may have felt it was too far away now have a convenient way to provide among the finest K–8 foundational experiences in the country to their children. Families can drop off between 7 and 7:30 a.m. and pick up between 4:20 and 6 p.m. Enrichment activities will be part of the afternoon “Extended Day” program, just as the school provides on our main campus.
