This week police made 42 motor vehicle stops. Ten resulted in citations or written warnings; 32 resulted in verbal warnings.
Tuesday, March 4
A caller reported at 8:19 a.m. that there was a tractor-trailer truck with its hazard lights on traveling very slowly on Ayer Road. Police say the truck was experiencing mechanical issues, and the driver was looking for a safe place to pull off the road. At 4:03 p.m. a caller reported that a car driven by a young man had been seen repeatedly speeding and passing cars on Littleton Road. Police determined the identity of the man and contacted him about the report. A Cleaves Hill Road resident called at 10:56 p.m. to report a missing dog, which was later found.
Wednesday, March 5
A Still River Road resident reported at 10 a.m. that her PayPal account had been hacked, and someone had purchased $200 worth of gift cards with the credit card she had on file with PayPal. The resident was advised to file a police report and notify the credit card company. The case is under investigation by the bank that issued the credit card. At 12:23 p.m. a caller reported being in an accident, but it was determined that the accident had happened in Harvard, Ill., and the call was intended for the police station there. Harvard police say that calls intended for their counterparts in Illinois are occasionally misrouted to Massachusetts, for some unknown reason. At 3:20 p.m. Harvard police were asked to assist State Police in responding to a report of an unruly student on a special needs bus traveling on Route 2. Officers were able to resolve the situation peacefully. A Prospect Hill Road resident called at 3:49 p.m. to report that someone had strewn nails in a neighbor’s driveway. The case is under investigation. A resident on Old Littleton Road called at 5:13 p.m. to report a dead raccoon in the roadway. An officer went to the scene and removed the animal.
Thursday, March 6
A fire officer responded to an alarm company’s 2:30 p.m. report of a fire alarm being triggered at a Shaker Road home, but determined that it had been a false alarm. At 4:15 p.m. an Oak Hill Road resident reported that a puppy wearing a leash was running loose in the area. Police referred the incident to Animal Control. An Arizona resident called at 7:47 p.m. with concerns about a Harvard child, who was playing an online game with the caller’s child, using some inappropriate language online. Police notified the parents of the Harvard child.
Friday, March 7
At 8:36 a.m. someone called to report a missing dog; Animal Control was notified. A man who was the subject of a restraining order stopped at the station at 12:21 p.m. seeking advice on how to retrieve some items from his home in Harvard. He was advised to make a request with the Clinton District Court. At 6:31 p.m. an Old Littleton Road resident called to report a dead animal in the roadway. Police asked the Department of Public Works to remove it. An officer on patrol at 10:59 p.m. stopped at the Prospect Hill overlook to advise the driver of a car parked there to move along.
Saturday, March 8
At 1:52 p.m. police and emergency services personnel responded to a medical emergency on Madigan Lane. The ambulance transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. Police and ambulance personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive woman at a Pinnacle Road residence at 2:20 p.m. Police say the woman had passed away and determined that it had been an unattended death. The medical examiner and state police were notified, as per department protocol. At 3:09 p.m. an alarm company called to report a fire alarm at a Still River Road residence. The responding fire officer determined the alarm had been triggered by cooking smoke. Police and the ambulance crew responded to a medical emergency at Harvard Lanes at 5:11 p.m. The ambulance took a woman to Leominster Hospital.
Sunday, March 9
At 11:24 a.m. a woman called to report that, five days earlier, she had been at the old library on Fairbank Street and had heard a noise that sounded like a gun being cocked. Police advised the caller about the importance of reporting such incidents as soon as they happen.
Monday, March 10
Police and emergency personnel responded to a medical call on Bolton Road at 2:03 a.m. The ambulance transported a man to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. At 8:29 a.m. someone stopped at the station to report that vandals had covered the railroad bridge on Old Mill Road with a substance that looked like Silly String. Police notified the railroad company.
