Battle of the Atlantic Talk
The Fort Devens Museum will present a talk by Michael G. Walling Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at the museum, third floor, 94 Jackson Road. Walling will explain how the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy ensured the safety of Arctic convoys before and during World War II. His book “Bloodstained Sea: The U.S. Coast Guard in the Battle of the Atlantic 1941-1944,” won the 2005 Samuel Eliot Morrison Award for Naval Literature from the Naval Order of the United States. The talk is free, but donations are appreciated. The building is wheelchair accessible.
Pete Seeger Songfest

Celtic Music with Robbie O’Connell
Celtic musician Robbie O’Connell will offer a solo performance of Irish, folk, Scottish, and original music Saturday, March 15, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Center on the Common. O’Connell has been a member of the Clancy Brothers band, and in addition to performing solo, also performs with The Clancy Legacy and Green Fields of America. Yoko Miwa Trio
Fanfare, with support from the Harvard Cultural Council, will present the Yoko Miwa Trio Sunday, March 16, at 5 p.m. at 42 Willow Road. ‘People of a Feather’
Fruitlands Museum will present a documentary film about the Inuit people of Canada’s Belcher Islands Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the museum. A discussion will follow the film. Admission is free, and hearty soup by Chef Paul Correnty is available for $5.
Festival of Cultures
The Harvard PTO will host a festival highlighting the experiences of families who have lived in other countries Friday, March 21, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hildreth Elementary School. Participants can get their passports stamped at each of the 20 countries represented at the festival, do fun crafts, bid on comestibles, and watch dance and musical performances by students. Food will not be served at the event.
Life of Jack Kerouac
The Warner Free Lecture Series will present “The Life and Intrigues of Jack Kerouac” Friday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s Volunteers Hall. Jim Sampas, well-known filmmaker and producer, will discuss the music and writing of Kerouac, who was one of the best-known writers of the Beat Generation in the 1950s. The event is free and open to the public.
Brain Fitness Workshop
The Council on Aging and Friends of the Council on Aging continue the Life Transitions series with a brain fitness workshop Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m. in the library’s Volunteers Hall. The program will begin with a brief introduction on the importance of keeping one’s brain active, healthy, and efficient as one ages. Research shows that it is possible, through deliberate choices and the practice of certain techniques and activities, to continue to stimulate brain growth throughout one’s lifetime. Harvard Schools Trust Dinner-Theater Gala
The Harvard Schools Trust will host its 25th annual dinner-theater gala Saturday, March 29, starting at 6 p.m. at the Bromfield School’s Cronin Auditorium. Participants will begin the evening with a production of the Sartre play “No Exit,” performed by the Bromfield Drama Society and directed by George Kendall. The show will also feature a vocal solo, cello solo, and duet selections with piano accompaniment from “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff, directed by Thomas Reynolds and Rebecca Ufema. The gourmet French dinner begins at 7:15 p.m. at the Unitarian Church’s Fellowship Building on Elm Street. Tickets are $60 and are available at www.harvardschoolstrust.org.
