Aided by a 14-5 run and tough defense in the final quarter, the Bromfield Trojans girls’ varsity basketball team wrapped up its season with a come-from-behind victory at home against Maynard, Wednesday, Feb. 19. The final score was 37-31, leaving the squad with a 6-14 record for the regular season.
A strong drive to the hole by freshman guard Hannah Lochiatto got the scoring started as the Trojans jumped to an early lead. A three-point bucket from junior guard Maegan Cullinan after an amazing defensive tip-steal from Lochiatto to Amy Jorgenson widened the margin to 7-4 in Bromfield’s favor halfway through the period. A coast-to-coast layup from Tigers guard Lauren Lappas tied the game 8-8 heading into the second quarter.
Led by senior Maegan Capone, Maynard clogged the Bromfield passing lanes and jumped to an 18-10 lead, their largest of the night. A two-point jumper from Accorsi and an offensive rebound and lay-in from freshman forward Abbey Pacl in the final minute of the quarter cut the deficit to 20-14 going into halftime.
Team finds rhythm in second half
The home team found its rhythm on offense soon after the second half began. “We lose our minds in up-and-down, 100-mile per-hour games,” said Head Coach Mike Davidson, who reminded his players at halftime to control the game’s tempo. Following a successful baseline jumper from Lochiatto, the Trojans exploded offensively as four different players including Lochiatto registered points in the quarter. An offensive rebound and lay-in from Accorsi and a quick pass from freshman forward Lexi Norcross to Accorsi on the block for another basket put the Trojans ahead 22-21, their first lead of the night. The quarter ended with the Trojans on top, 28-25.

A Maynard shot-clock violation gave the ball back to Bromfield at the beginning of the fourth period, but a two-point try from senior Dana Morgan and a trifecta from Lappas brought Maynard within one point of the home team, 32-31, with less than three minutes remaining. Two successful free-throw attempts by Accorsi with 21.4 seconds remaining iced the game for the Trojans, closing out their season on a high note with the win.
