Citizens invited to Master Plan forums
The Master Plan Steering Committee, a subcommittee of the Planning Board, invites Harvard residents to participate in a series of roundtable discussion to define the direction of the town over the next decade. Participants are asked to weigh in on such topics as sidewalks, traffic, commercial development, and Devens. The meetings will take place as follows:
- Town center and public facilities: Monday, March 3, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bromfield library.
- Housing and conservation: Tuesday, March 4, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bromfield library.
- Transportation and the commercial district: Wednesday, March 5, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Bromfield library.
- Devens and its impact on Harvard: Saturday, March 8, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Center on the Common.
Change in early release day at Bromfield
Bromfield principal Jim O’Shea announced this week that, due to town election dates, the early release originally scheduled for Bromfield students on Tuesday, April 1, has been changed to Tuesday, April 8.
Bromfield School Council needs representative
The Bromfield School Council is looking for a representative from the community at large to serve on the council. It meets approximately 15 times a year and is responsible for:
- Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
- Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
- Reviewing the annual school budget
- Formulating an annual school improvement plan

Lions Club citrus sale starts Mar. 8
The Harvard Lions Club will begin its annual citrus fruit sale of Valencia oranges and red grapefruit at the Transfer Station and Town Common starting Saturday, March 8. Proceeds from the sale support Lions Club charities, including national charities for the blind, visually impaired, and disabled; and local groups including needy families, food pantries, and schools. State to review programs at Harvard schools
The state’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will visit the Harvard public schools during the week of March 10 to conduct a review of the schools’ civil rights, English learner, and special education programs. According to a press release from the office of interim Superintendent Joeseph Connelly, any member of the public can request to be interviewed by telephone by a member of the state’s review team. Those who want to be interviewed should call either the superintendent’s office at 978-456-4140, or the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at 781-338-3727, no later than March 6.
