A resident of Old Mill Road dialed 911 at 2:28 p.m. to report that her snow blower was ablaze. She said she had tried dousing it with snow to no avail. A fire truck was dispatched and the flames extinguished.
Thursday, Dec. 19
At 10:17 a.m. an East Bare Hill Road resident complained that a snow plow hired by a neighbor had damaged his stone wall and electric fence. Because the neighbor had flagged down the plow driver at random and paid for his work in cash, police have been unable to locate the vehicle.
Friday, Dec. 20
A Pinnacle Road resident phoned the dispatcher at 8:30 a.m. to report having seen a bobcat. An officer investigated and confirmed the presence of bobcat tracks on the caller’s property. At 8:30 p.m. a Stow Road resident asked police to investigate suspicious activity on land near his house. The homeowner said his dog had been barking and that when he released the dog and stepped outside, he heard rustling sounds and smelled cigarette smoke. An officer responded but found nothing.
Saturday, Dec. 21
Police investigated a 4:07 p.m. report of a domestic disturbance on Fairbank Street. The cause was a couple having a loud but friendly disagreement.
Sunday, Dec. 22:
A vehicle headed west on Oak Hill Road failed to yield right-of-way and sideswiped a second vehicle. There were no injuries, but both vehicles suffered minor damage. The driver of the first vehicle was issued a warning for failure to yield. Two deer were struck and killed on Ayer Road near Appleworks, the first at 5:26 p.m. and the second at 7:27 p.m. There were no injuries to either driver, though the vehicles sustained minor damage.
Tuesday, Dec. 24
A man walking his dog on Old Littleton Road called the police at 12:16 p.m. to complain that his dog had been attacked and injured by another. The injured animal required veterinary attention. Police identified the owner of the attacker and notified the dog officer. Sometime around midnight numerous callers reported seeing a UFO drawn by 12 reindeer and driven by a jolly man in a red suit. As he drove out of sight, he was heard to exclaim, “Merry Christmas to all.” The incident remains under investigation.
Wednesday, Dec. 25
Responding to a 5:16 p.m. 911 call, police arrested an Ayer man and charged him with domestic assault and battery.
Thursday, Dec. 26
Police stopped a car on Slough Road at 9:06 a.m. and issued a summons to its female operator. The woman, a resident of Worcester, was cited for speeding and for driving without a license. At 9:29 a.m. an officer responded to a report of an injured deer near Harvard Plaza on Ayer Road and put the animal down. The driver of a passing pickup truck asked for the carcass and removed it. A few moments later at 9:34 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Ayer Road near the post office and arrested Rick Simard, 50, of Haverhill, Mass., who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. He was transported to the Clinton District Court.
Saturday, Dec. 28
An Old Mill Road resident called at 2:57 p.m. to complain that someone had shot a deer on his property without permission. An officer investigated and found evidence of a kill, but the perpetrator had left the scene.
Sunday, Dec. 29
Police responded to a report of domestic assault and battery at 3:05 p.m. The victims were transported by the ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center for treatment, and a restraining order was issued against the alleged assailant, who had left the scene.
Monday, Dec. 30
At 10:26 a.m. police arrested Harvard resident Richard Figueroa, charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and violation of a restraining order. In the course of the arrest, Sergeant John Coates of the Harvard police sustained minor injuries. The arrestee was transported to the Worcester House of Correction on $1,000 bail. Police stopped a vehicle with missing lights on Ayer Road at 10:10 p.m. and issued a summons to its female driver, a West Boylston resident, who was charged with operating a vehicle without a license.
Wednesday, Jan 1
Police stopped a car on Ayer Road at 11:05 p.m. and issued a summons to its male driver, a Harvard resident. He was charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license. A neighbor drove the vehicle home.
Friday, Jan. 3
As the DPW worked to clear nearly 10 inches of snow from town roads, there was only one accident. A driver descending an icy West Bare Hill Road hit the brakes, and the car slid into a second car making its way up the hill. There were no injuries. Both cars were damaged and had to be towed. The driver of the first car was issued a warning for driving too fast and for failing to stay within his marked lane.
Sunday, Jan. 5
At 2:47 a.m. police spoke with the driver of a car parked at Harvard Lanes on Ayer Road. The vehicle was uninsured, and its registration had been revoked. The owner, an Ashburnham man, was charged on both counts, as well as for allowing another party to operate an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle was towed. Later that morning at 9:48 a.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Stow Road. The driver, who claimed to have been avoiding a squirrel, had crashed into three trees. There were no injuries. The car was towed, and the driver was issued a warning for speeding.
Monday, Jan. 6
The Fire Department responded at 9:07 a.m. to a 911 report of a car on fire in the parking lot in front of the General Store. The fire was extinguished, and the owner arranged for the car to be towed.
