Press release submitted by Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley
Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, a premier provider of patient rehabilitation services, is making significant investments in specialized wound care certification of staff. Recognizing that staff with special training may enhance wound healing, the center has provided funding for several of its nurses and physical therapists to attain advanced certification in wound care.
Annika Selinger, RPT, is one wound certified staff member. After several years as a practicing physical therapist she undertook the education required for wound care certification to satisfy her desire to help accelerate patient recovery rates.
A 33 year veteran of nursing, Nancy LaRock, RN, Director of Nursing Services, has been wound care certified for three years. LaRock’s wound care certification helps her by broadening her contact with other wound care clinicians and surgeons who refer patients to Nashoba Valley.
When asked for evidence of the benefits of their training, both Selinger and LaRock describe the satisfaction of seeing extensive wounds heal under their care. They also cite the data on pressure ulcers, one type of skin wound. Published by the Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, the statistics show that Nashoba’s wound rate is lower than the national average. This is one of the reasons that Life Care Center of Nashoba is the only five star nursing and rehab center in the area.
According to Ellen Levinson, Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley’s executive director, “Wound care certification is a win-win-win proposition. It benefits our facility, our staff, and most importantly, it helps expedite patient recoveries, reduce the duration of patient treatment and improve overall patient outcomes.” Ms. Levinson adds, “Our focus on state of the art wound care is one example of the commitment we make both to patients and staff.”
