We’d like to acknowledge the great support our fire department provided to my family and our neighbors when our power was lost due to a malfunction in our private high-voltage line, just 10 minutes before the Red Sox game (ouch!) Saturday Oct. 19. After three days of our families on minimal generator electrical support for well and heating (note my 85-year-old mother lives with us) and intense 10-hour days retrenching and laying of a new line by our privately hired electrician who came out immediately the following day (Local Electrical NE-CEO Rick Melino, who was unpaid for support), National Grid was not going to connect the final support to restore our electricity for another two weeks. Our electrician called the Harvard fire chief. Whatever was said between our fire department chief and National Grid, National Grid was immediately at our place to make the simple connection to restore power to both our houses. Our electrician said it was the best fire department he has ever worked with—this included the Sunday emergency calls. We moved to Harvard for the reputation of its schools and have also discovered an amazing community and friends. Accolades to a proven community.
