About a half-hour after midnight, an officer stopped to speak with a man standing beside a vehicle in the center of town. He was staying in town and waiting to pick up a friend. A female resident of Westcott Road called at 3:45 p.m. to report a phone scam. Someone had called from an unidentified number to say her husband had been injured in a car accident. The caller was seeking personal information from the woman, but a call to her husband confirmed he was at work and had not been in an accident. Police were unable to locate the caller, who was likely using a so-called “spoof” card. A credit card company called at 4 p.m. to report that an unknown person had applied for a card under a Harvard resident’s account number. The company had already issued the new card, but then, after calling the police, cancelled it. The EMT crew responded to an emergency call from a Lancaster County Road residence at 4:54 p.m. An elderly woman had fallen, though police later determined she had been pushed by a child. She was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. At 5:43 p.m., a driver called to complain of being passed by a speeding car on Still River Road. Police were unable to locate the offending vehicle. The ambulance responded to a 911 call from a Warren Avenue residence at 7:10 p.m. to treat a youth who had been struck in the head by a wake board in a boating accident on Bare Hill Pond. The patient was transported to Emerson Hospital. At 11:20 p.m., police responded to a report that a female was missing from a Blanchard Road residence. She had gone outside to make a phone call and not been seen since. A search confirmed that she had returned and fallen asleep on a couch.
Wednesday, August 21
At 11:30 a.m., police arrested Theodore Helms of West Newton for harassing a Harvard man as the two were driving in separate vehicles on Ayer Road. The suspect’s actions violated the terms of a do-not-harass order. A Harvard woman came to the police station at 12:17 p.m. to say she had been receiving anonymous and offensive phone calls that were sexual in nature. Police attempted to trace the call, but were unable to make contact. At 3 p.m., a college student complained that her car had been keyed as she was returning books to the Harvard library. Police determined that the timing of the incident made it unlikely it could have occurred in Harvard and suggested the young woman pursue the complaint elsewhere. Harvard police assisted the state police in searching for a white Toyota that had been driving erratically on Route 2 and had last been seen at 3:37 p.m. headed north on Ayer Road. Police were not able to locate the vehicle. At 7:30 p.m., the ambulance responded to a caller on Ayer Road who said that a young man staying with relatives there had reported trying to hurt himself. The man, a student at a local university, was transported to Emerson Hospital for observation.
Thursday, August 22
The ambulance transported an elderly female to Nashoba Valley Medical Center at 1:05 p.m. The woman had fallen while visiting Fruitlands. At 4:30 p.m. a DPW worker came to the station to say he was missing $300. He had been working on the paving project on Pond Road. The money has not yet been found.
Friday, August 23
A resident of Fairbank Street said that a young woman had come knocking on her door sometime after 2 p.m. saying she was attempting to deliver papers to a Fairbank Street resident but could not find the house. She was driving a sedan described as “silver-tan” in color. Police were unable to locate either the vehicle or the woman.
Saturday, August 24
A resident called about 10 p.m. to complain of noise from a wedding party near Old Littleton Road and Old Schoolhouse Road. But the night was young, so police did not intervene.
Sunday, August 25
At 1:49 a.m., with the assistance of Boxborough, police arrested Wendie Samarco of Littleton near the Route 2 exit on Ayer Road for driving under the influence (OUI). She was later released on $40 bail. A male passenger was also briefly held and then released. It was Samarco’s second OUI offense. She was charged with operating under the influence, resisting arrest, operating to endanger the safety of other motorists, and failure to stay within marked lanes. The car was towed.
Monday, August 26
The ambulance transported a female resident of East Bare Hill Road to Emerson Hospital. The young woman had fallen down stairs in the home sometime after 7 a.m. A South Shaker Road resident called at 10:19 a.m. to report a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the Shaker cemetery. Police were unable to locate the truck, described by the caller as a dark-colored pickup. At 9:30 p.m., the ambulance and fire department assisted the state police at the scene of a single-car accident on Route 2. The east-bound vehicle had driven into a guardrail at the side of the road. The driver was transported to Lowell General Hospital.
